Adoekiti Settlement in Awan | World Anvil

Adoekiti

A town set north of Bandit Harbor and south of Arctic City, just south of Lake Otetiani's western shore.

Demographics

Mixed, like Arctic City, but a fair number of humans. A half-orc, Durumak, runs the militia and a Halfling couple, Belver and Paewyn, run the Shire's Dream Inn.  The mayor, Rosetta Arno, is a human.

Government

Rosetta Arno is mayor of Adoekiti and handles all civilian affairs.  Durumak is captain of the guard and runs the military section of Adoekiti. Durumak cedes to Rosetta in most things, but doesn't cede in things he believes hurt the town's chances of survival.  Like when he refused to send the guards after the captured children because there would be too few guards left to guard all of Adoekiti.

Defences

Adoekiti is surrounded by a wooden wall with a walkway on the inside that allows defenders to patrol the wall with half-cover.  The wall is 10' high.   Adoekiti receives a rotation of guards from Arctic City and supplements them with a militia formed from its own civilians.  Only two guards are permanent residents of Adoekiti: Durumak and Little Quill.

Industry & Trade

Adoekiti is a settlement of Arctic City and receives limited support from Arctic City but is mostly independent.  What the villagers need they supply or source themselves.

Infrastructure

Adoekiti has a wooden wall that encompasses all of the buildings and has room inside it for the livestock to be sheltered at night.  Farms encompass the outside of Adoekiti's walls and run to the edge of the forest that surrounds Adoekiti.  The farmers share a single windmill.  All of the water for the village is drawn from 3 wells: 1 inside the livestock's shelter, 1 in the main street of town, and 1 in the residential area of town.   One main road runs through the center of town with most of the shops and "attractions" located on it.  The rest of town is mostly residences.

Assets

Adoekiti has everything the villagers need to support themselves as well as some accommodations for travelers.  Down its main road Adoekiti has a blacksmith, a carpenter and tanner shop, a clothing store, general goods store, a tavern with a small stable, a bunkhouse, a small marketplace, and a building that serves at City Hall and a general meeting hall.

History

Town was established 1.5 years ago; has been a rough go but they are making progress.

Architecture

All of the buildings in Adoekiti are made of wood.  The only stone building is the single windmill that is shared by all the farmers.   The families of Adoekiti like to decorate their homes with dyes/paints that are sourced from the immediate area.  Many of the doorways and roofs of Adoekiti are colored and some of the buildings/residences have colorful banners flying under a window or next to the door.  City Hall has two such banners on either side of the main door displaying the town crest: twin jade circlets with gold inlay laid on top of each other forming a vertical ven-diagram.

Geography

Adeokiti is surrounded by forest.  They clearing Adoekiti is set in was created by the villagers when they chopped down trees for the wood to construct the town.

Natural Resources

Adoekiti has an abundance and variety of lumber from the surrounding forest.  The forest also provides foraging and hunting opportunities.  Trapping is the preferred form of hunting as it is the safest and quickest way of getting out of the forest and back to the safety of Adoekiti.
