Bloodlines are a way in which powerful beings are able to share their abilities with offspring.
Most common in magical beasts, bloodlines are very rare due to their low chance of passing on. While bloodlines may come to an end as soon as the first generation, sometimes vestiges of that bloodline are left and result in the divergence of a new species.
Their are two means by which a bloodline can be passed on: Bloodline Inheritance and Bloodline Transference.
Bloodline Inheritance
Bloodline Inheritance is a natural process by which powerful beings pass down some of their abilities to their offspring. The chances of any one descendant inheriting a bloodline is thought to be less than 5%. This, coupled with low fertility, results in the low number of Bloodline beasts worldwide.
Bloodline Transference
Bloodline Transference is the change in genetic code of another being due to prolonged contact with the magic radiation of a bloodline beast. This happens at an individual level but if multiple individuals of a species breed and pass on their mutated genes to their offspring then there is a small chance that they will develop into a new species.
