Đakrsinja

Slinking through the dark forests of Raheddica, the Đakrsinja is a deadly beast. Do not be fooled, for its size is the least of your worries; its threat lies in its bloodline ability: an innate talent in blood magics. Beware the lone traveler who crosses its path in the dark of night. Run fast lest you fall to its evil magics and become slave to its cruel bidding.

by MagpieShrike
The Đakrsinja are large bloodline beasts closely resembling foxes. Attacking lone travelers in the dead of night, they use a form of blood magic on their prey, leeching the life and blood out of them and leaving them with a curse in what is known as a Blood Tribute. What is left is only a lifeless husk, left to follow the will of the Đakrsinja as a Blood Scourge. The Đakrsinja bloodline is the origin of the feared Krsiljudi who were hunted to extinction due to the blood magic transferred to them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Đakrsinja are large canids closely resembling foxes. They measure 4'7" at the shoulder and 8'2" in body length with tails measuring 7'6" and weigh an average of 430 lb. Their faces are triangular with a long snout and large, pointed ears. Their bodies are slender and covered mostly with short fur with longer fur on their neck and tail, and tufts on their cheeks, elbows, and hocks.   Point coloration produced by the agouti gene acts on the extension gene to suppress black coloration to all but the snout, legs, base of the neck, and tips of the ears and tail. The rest of the body is colored in a warm, dark, grey brown. The black also appears in markings radiating from the corner of the eyes down to the corner of the mouth and in streaks radiating from the shoulders and trailing down the back.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Đakrsinja are nocturnal ambush predators. Despite their size, they go almost unnoticed, slinking through the forest and waiting for their prey to get close enough to strike. If their prey is not rendered incapacitated and tries to flee, the Đakrsinja may resort to pursuit predation though it is often unnecessary. A single bite is often enough for their blood magic to activate. Sucking the blood of their prey in what is called a Blood Tribute, they leave behind a curse that turns their prey into Blood Scourges. A hollow husk is left behind to return to the Đakrsinja as food or to lure more prey.
