Lairae Species in Avendora | World Anvil

Lairae (L-air-ay)

A Lairae’s most unique and defining trait is it’s ability to teleport itself and any objects it is physically touching almost instantly to any location that they have previously been that is stored in their memory. Unfortunately, The Durge have found this trait very useful. This ability seems to be partially biological but mainly connected to a latent Void ability they all share.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Lairae have humanoid upper torsos that turn into a single snake-like appendage below the waist. Their arms and necks are also longer than a humans, with their heads having 3 eyes and their hands having 2 long, thin fingers each.

Genetics and Reproduction

Lairae actually have 3 sexes, all of which coming together are needed to induce reproduction. One acts as the host for the infant to develop within while one contributes an implanted egg and the other fertilization to the egg. The fetus stays within its “mother’s” gestation organ located in their tail for nearly 3 years before being born. The slow gestation rate as well as a low fertilization success rate mean that Lairae reproduce relatively quite slowly and thus there are not many of them in the galaxy.

Ecology and Habitats

Lairae prefer warm sunny environments as the absorb sunlight through their skin.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Both traditional food/water and sunlight are used by Lairae as sustenance. They have to consume large amounts of food and water due to teleportation taking so much energy.
