Crest Cleaver

"Crest Cleaver?" the wizened dwarf raises a bushy brow at your query. "Ay, I ken the piece. One a the lost weapons of Yurdras Dragonbender." Seeing your blank stares the dwarf lets out a weary sigh, "O' course ye don't be kennin' who he is. Yurdras was the greatest Dwarven smith what ever set a hammer to anvil. Mithril, Adamantine, Novistone, it all flowed like water to his whim. Crest Cleaver be one o' his greatest ever."
The dwarf hopped off his chair to start to walk and gestures for you to follow, sizing you up, "I c'n see why ye may be interested. By yer cut, I be thinkin' ye're a sailin' man." Not waiting for, nor expecting an answer the old dwarf hobbles on his way. "Crest Cleaver was created in the Heart o' the World, where Yurdras opened his great forge to the elemental planes. The cutlass was created usin' virgin mithril, an' Yurdras flowed Novistone through the metal till th' whole thing started ta blazin' brighter than a star. Usin' his hammer, Yurdras drew the essence o' the oceans intae the weapon, till the blade shone wi' the blue o' the deepest sea. He mated it tae a hilt shaped as a crashin' wave." The ancient dwarf closes his eyes searching back in history with a reverence usually reserved for the most holy of clerics. "An when he was done, he cast his creation intae the very depths o' th' ocean he harnessed tae create it." He opens one eye looking at you with a hint of mirth. "Dinna be surprised, is the way of Traek's faithful tae break or cast off their greatest creations." He pats your shoulder, chuckling, "Dinna worry, is no bein' the end o' Crest Cleaver's story."
The Dwarf finds a stone bench, near a fountain, and sets down with an audible sigh of relief. "The Cutlass found its way to the hands of the merfolk, and a Triton; Moros Dhalolnath. In the hands of the Triton, the cutlass was a marvel. Shaping the very waves that Moros swam in, the sword became a tool that the Sahuagin grew to fear. Moros sent waves crashing into Sahuagin lairs, used the water to propel the sword in deadly arcs, and became the bane of evil water creatures everywhere." He chuckles again, "Don't ye be worryin'. Tha' cutlass didna' see it's true power till the sword came te the hands of Captain Salome 'Cruelty' Fletcher. A lass tha' ran a ship that was the terror of the south seas. No much is known how she came tae possess the blade, but th' most interestin' is the rumor tha' she and Moros were lovers, an' the Triton gifted the blade ta her when he passed beyond the Veil."
"Oh, when tha' blade was in her hands..." The dwarf shakes his head almost reverently. "Tha' blade tied her tae the seas, in ways ye canno' be kennin'. Waves and currents obeyed her whim. Anythin' on the water tha' she owned fell under her sway. It was said she could be crewin' any ship, from dinghy ta Galleon by herself. She used tha' weapon as Moros would have wanted, too. Became the bane o' anyone tha' crossed the Free Captains, she did." The dwarf looks wistfully away again before looking back to you, "Alas, The Howling Fortune sailed tae the north, up near Muldoon Bay it's said, an' none has heared o' her again." The Dwarf looks at you noticing your look, "Be settin' yer sights on findin' that ship an' blade are ye? Many have o'er th' years, friend, but th' Bay is unforgivin' and has swallowed more'n her fair share o' ships. Take ye this warnin', leave tha' wots buried at sea tae the depths." He chuckles, judging your response, "No tha' tha' warnin's goin' tae be stoppin' ye, I can see."
