Si Wong Desert

The Si Wong Desert, as it's name suggests, is a vast desert located in the south of the Earth Mainland. Vast sand dunes, with the occasional Sand Tribe village, make up the landscape.   Nearly three centuries before the events of Petals of the Lotus, the Si Wong Desert contained much more water and vegitation, and the desert was known as The Great Oasis. An ancient civilization onced thrived around the oasis, but that civilization was destroyed during The Great War. The remnants of that civilization become the Sand People.

Geography

Si Wong Desert is divided into three parts - the Northern Desert, the Southwestern Desert, and the Eastern Desert.   The Northern Desert borders the lands of the Earth Kingdom of Ba Sing Se and is where the land turns from green, fertile fields to barren desert. Sands of the Northern Desert are smooth and constanly shifting due to the winds which blow in from the East. As such, the Northern Desert has some of the largest dunes in desert, making it ideal for the Great Sand Race.   The Southwestern Desert borders the lands of the Kingdom of Omashu and contains the most oases of the land.   The Eastern Desert is considered the harshet and most remote part of the desert, with few vegitation and animals. Dark valleys and cliffsides define the most remote parts of this region.

Ecosystem

Besides the humans which inhabit the land, the desert contains a suprising amount of wildlife. Most of the animals in the desert are only active in the mornings and evenings when the sands are at their coolest. But, a few animals constantly traverse the sands all day, one of which is the fearsome Sand Shark.   The fauna of the desert is mostly contained to small pockets of vegetation dotting the landscape. The few oases in the desert boast the most green in the entire region.

Fauna & Flora

Despite it's seeming inhospitability, the Desert is home to many varieties of living things, from plants such as cacti to animals such as sand-sharks and sand-ants.
