The Great War

The Last Great Conflict to Fundamentally Re-Shape the World

The catalyst for the events which would lead up to beginning of this story, The Great War was actually a series of wars spanning over 300 years. Entire towns, cities, and even civilizations were destroyed during the fighting. Lion Turtles almost went extinct during this time.

During The Great War, Benders became practically extinct as they were all killed off during the never-ending fighting. There were Benders on every side in the war. Unlike regular soldiers and military assets, Benders were specifically targeted and hunted down by entire armies because of their extremely high threat-level. The Avatar was killed multiple times during the Great War.

Sensing that it was futile to fight back, a few remaining Benders went into hiding, including the Avatar. Those who did not paid the ultimate price for their bravery. Benders would not reemerge into the war until towards its very end.

The Great War lasted for so long, that by the end of the war people had forgotten what they were originally fighting over. Even scholars in the modern day are still unsure as to why the War was first waged or continued.
