The Amberstone Covenant

At the close of the Scouring of Axes four civilisations stood defiant against a massive Orc and Duergar invasion; The Aelvari of Asunar, the Stonefang Dwarves, the three great Human Kingdoms and the displaced gnomes who had lost their home to the war. With their backs together against the green tide they fought and bled together.   The war finally ended when First Magister Celeste and her cadre of elite arcanists gave their lives to cast a spell of the final seal and obliterated the Orc forces. Such was the power of their spell that the caster's mortal shells were turned to pure crystalized mana. Their physical forms forever preserved in the purest form at a site that would become the magnificent city of Argent's Gate.   Under this bittersweet monument of victory all four of the victorious factions signed the Amberstone Covenant. A pact of cooperation and hope for better days ahead. Swearing oaths of protection and cooperation between their peoples. The Covenant formed the spark of a new age of hope in this dangerous world.   The Asunar Magocracy proposed a further solidification of this new alliance and the creation of a council made of the leaders of the four nations so they might continue to act in the interest of all as the heroes of the Scouring had. The Dwarves and Gnomes readily accepted, happy to be part of such an alliance.   However, the humans of the three kingdoms, ever hostile neighbours fell into infighting; unable to decide on which should lead them, none wanting to become a mere vassal. It was then that the hero of Theridas' military, the powerful and charismatic Tyrus Vakarian stepped up on the political stage, he roused the peoples of Theridas, Ardania and Dolgar with a vision of united humanity and an Empire that could stand as a Bulwark against the evils of the world. Thus was the Valgardian Empire founded.   The years to follow saw rebuilding and unification. The three kingdoms were dissolved. The homeless gnomes were granted land within the newly formed Valgardian Empire and settled under the Griffon's Peak Mountains, founding the technologically advanced city of Sparkhaven. The Aelvari of Asunar established seven spires of Magic throughout Valgarde and began to train the humans in the ways of magic.   The Covenant has held firm for over eighty years of peace and now its members turn their eyes south towards the untamed lands of The Reach.
