Strait of Magellan Incident

The Strait of Magellan Incident was the event that occurred in late 2014 when the Etrusian Navy, directed by the Etrusian Government, broke through the UCC mandated Sea Exclusion Zone and landed in Argentina. This led to the United Continental Council (UCC) to engage with outside nations, ultimately leading to the reveal of the continent of Aurora to the world.

The Conflict

Prelude

By 2014 Etrusia had been in a civil war for about three years. The Executive Minister of Etrusia elected four years prior, Laura Cascadia, was struggling to maintain control over the country from the separationist faction, led by [Dire Wolf Leader]. A regional dominion of mainly Etrusian dire wolves rose up not long after Aurelius's election, dissatisfied by the country's declining economy and the increasing amassing of wealth by politicians and aristocrats who pushed for further deregulation of Etrusia's economic protections. Thus, a number of disgruntled Etrusians united under the banner of [DWL] and began arming themselves and securing provinces under their control.

Laura and the Etrusian Armed Forces deployed and responded to the resurrection, which resulted in the devastation of many towns in Eastern and Southern Etrusia. This, along with the resulting agricultural disruptions requiring the increasing import of food, pushed more people to the side of the separatists. (...)

After learning of potential rivals challenging his executive-ship, including his fellow partner [partnerName], Aurelius became desperate. With little support from other Auroran nations, and his wavering and fracturing military and cabinet, he had little to turn to except outside of Aurora. Aurelius hoped that by breaking through the Sea Exclusion Zone and making contact with an outsider country, he could force the hand of the UCC and find global support to protect himself and his term in office. (...) (Brutus)

Aurelius then collected members of his cabinet that he could trust, along with a navy admiral who was sympathetic to his cause, and planned a move. They had few ships to spare, as a couple admirals a few months ago had defected and took some of the navy's vessels. The admirals, along with other separatists, fortified the islands on the continental west coast of Etrusia, forcing the majority of the remaining Etrusian Navy to commit their ships to engaging them. [FriendlyAdmiral] was able to muster up 5 spare ships to break through the blockade with Aurelius's diplomats. The target was to reach a South American country (...)

Deployment

[Friendly Admiral] and his small fleet left port in the early morning of October 4, 2014, before the sun had even rose. They traveled Continental North along the coast, avoiding sight of the ships of the exclusion zone who no doubt would've drawn curious of the fleet's movements. (...) (Actions actually bolstered his support. Unrelated, separatists split, giving Aurelius the upperhand) (He would go on to oust his rebellious allies and soon become a dictator, both out of desire and desperation)
