Aurelius Agricultural Systems (AAS)

The largest corporation within the Aurelius Territory is AAS. AAS began as a subsidiary of the Drid Food Corps that organized the growing and distribution of food on Aurelius Prime back when the Drid first arrived in the system. The corporation began under a Conclave Charter, along with a handful of other corporations to sustain and grow life for the Drid in the new system. The Drid Food Corps quickly discovered that the agricultural resources of Aurelius Prime were extremely limited and would not be able to sustain the Drid for the foreseeable future. So representatives of the Food Corps were part of the exploration of the rest of the Territory, and the first planet that was found with rich soil resources that could feed the Drid and all else in the system was called Aquilae 8. AAS was started to settle the planet, develop a labor force for food development, and immediately began farming the land.

More than a few millennia has passed and AAS has since become an independent corporation and the largest corporation in the Aurelius Territory. It runs agricultural production on both Aquilae 8 and Aurabis 10. Both planets have dozens of corporate communities where the laborers live, work, and play. AAS provides everything needed to keep its workers productive, busy, and docile. They also own the second largest fleet of ships outside the military and the Galactic Space Force. These ships keep strict schedules providing a secondary source of food for five other planets. The operation is gigantic. All of the smaller corporations on each individual planet that operate local food production do so at 1/7 the capacity of AAS.

AAS’s most successful power move was convincing the Conclave to negotiate the use of two entire species to serve as their labor force. When the Drid negotiated the rescue of the human population of Earth, its terms included half of the planet’s population serving as laborers on Aquilae 8. (The other half settled a planet in the outskirts, a planet they named Oklahoma Prime.) It might seem as a heavy cost, but placed next to the inevitable fate of the dying planet, the humans had little choice. The second species were the indigenous inhabitants of Aurabis 10, the Dumè. The Drid conquered the planet by force and the Conclave chartered AAS to use the planet for food production, while another company, Majestic Metals, was contracted to search for and strip the planet of the invaluable cryocrystals. AAS enthusiastically took on the assignment of another planet. They quickly developed satisfactory relations with the Dumè, even allowing them a way out of simple labor to either move up in the company or independently leave the planet. A partnership with the science company, Cyprus Biological Advances, make this opportunity possible. The opportunity is only for those Dumè (and humans, although it is rumored that the humans are forced) who participate in the breeding of Huma. Huma are half Dumè and half human. They are breeded uniquely for labor purposes. Huma life expectancy is 20-30 years, but they have the physical strength of Dumè, and the intelligence of humans. (Some offspring are a weaker mix.) Most importantly, they grow to adulthood in 5 years. The creation of Huma fill the ranks of laborers on Aurabis 10 and the territory’s military (run of course by the Drid).

As you can tell, AAS carries significant power in the Aurelius Territory. For the last two millennia, they have always had a former CEO invited to take a seat on the Conclave.
