Tear in the Veil
It all began with a strange accident—a rider on horseback, fleeing through the countryside, took a fall. In the chaos, a powerful magical artifact, the Tomb of the Twilight Arcana, was momentarily exposed, unleashing a surge of shadow magic across the land of Aurelia. Though the rider quickly recovered the book and vanished via teleportation, a single page was left behind... a page that is now in the party’s possession.
Since then, the mystery has deepened. The party has learned—through figures like Amara Faithkeeper—that a powerful sorcerer named Lyra Stormcaller is using the book in an attempt to tear the veil to the Shadowlands, a dangerous and forgotten realm. Lyra’s motives remain unclear, but the consequences of her actions are growing ever more dire.
Further intrigue was uncovered in Naxene DuLac’s private correspondence: a stolen letter revealed that Lyra believes Naxene holds the missing page, and is attempting to bargain with her to retrieve it. It is unclear if Naxene seeks to help or hinder Lyra, but her involvement is undeniable.
Meanwhile, the party has been told that a scholar known as Librarian Meadowbrook, residing at the Great Library in University City, may hold vital knowledge about the book and its origins.
As the party digs deeper, they discover that powerful forces are moving behind the scenes:
- Amara Faithkeeper: A mysterious agent seemingly working to stop the unfolding events.
- Lyra Stormcaller: The sorcerer who is actively trying to tear open the veil to the Shadowlands.
- Naxene DuLac: A political figure entangled with Lyra, possibly seeking the page the party now carries.
- Emperor Lucious Raventide : According to Amara, the true mastermind behind the plot—though his role is still veiled in secrecy.
- Sir Percival Waggles: The pompous President of the Solaris Islands, now hunting the party on Lyra’s behalf.
The pieces are moving. The shadows grow deeper. And all paths lead toward a storm that could engulf Aurelia itself.
After rescuing Librarian Meadowbrook the party learns of another book, Beyond the Veil: A Study of the Shadowed Lands which Meadowbrook believes Naxene DuLac to have taken from him when her guards abducted him. He believes this is critical to stopping Lyra from tearing the veil to shadowfell.
