River Struum
No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.
Geography
The River Struum is located within the Strumavi Drift, a valley between the Voiceless Corridor and the Arishi Desert. Despite the extremely arid conditions of the surrounding landscapes, the River Struum is a haven for life, known for its greenery along its banks. It runs from the Shattered Spine in the south all the way to the Fret Bay in the north, flowing through the city of Khaldunheim and the bones of Hylvä, The All-Hunger.
Climate
Temperatures within the Strumavi Drift are relatively stable all year round, with highs well above 40º C (104º F) during the day and lows plummeting to 0º C (32º F) at night. Rain, while unheard of in the surrounding regions, is not uncommon around the river. When it does rain, floods are sure to follow, destroying crops and ill-placed building alike in their tides. Farmers use these periodic and predictable floods as a way to reset their fields, and to sow their seeds when the most nutritious soil is available for their crop.
Natural Resources
Agriculture is widespread along the banks of the River Struum due to rich sediment deposits released by periodic flooding. Grains such as wheat and barley paint the riverside in golden hues, and fruit trees dot the landscape. Lumber is a luxury, with few larger old growth trees able to support widespread logging efforts. Clay is found in abundance here, and is fashioned into sun-dried bricks for construction. Fresh water, of course, is collected from the river and exported to other settlements in the Arishi Desert.
