After recovering from the attack, the dwarves of Karak Lok were focusing everything on rebuilding their army, even recruiting mercenaries from other dwarven territories to fill their ranks.
Even though they have been weakened, so were the elves of Annotii.   The dwarves gathered an army that was armed to the teeth, wearing heavy armour and powerful weapons. As soon as it was ready, the army was sent to the east to attack Annotii.

This came to no surprise to the elves and intent on continuing their war, they too were patching up the large holes in their ranks so they were getting ready to repel the dwarven army.
The dwarves knew that they were at a clear disadvantage inside the huge forest the elves live in, so using special machines that can spray burning oils they started burning and cutting large swaths into the forest to make their way to the elven capital.   The elves knew that they had to attack the dwarves head on, or else they would be breaking down the gate of their capital soon.
The elves formed a pincer around the path the dwarves were burning through the forest and attacked.
The heavy armour of the dwarves proved invaluable in repelling the arrows that were being shot at them. Filled with burning vengeance, the dwarves managed to beat back the elves and continued their way towards the elven capital.
Using illusion magic, the elves made the various landmarks the dwarves knew off appear in different locations to steer the dwarves towards a different city.   This city was mostly undefended now due to the elves pulling all armed forced towards their capital and into their armies that continued to attack and harass the dwarves.
The city was not evacuated by the order of the elven King Sarathai Nadrur, to slow the dwarves down.   Eventually the dwarves arrived at the city and assaulted it straight away, breaking down the gates and killing the meagre amount of soldiers there were left in it. Filled with rage of the treachery the elves had committed and believing they were in the capital, the dwarves began slaughtering the civilians and burning the city to the ground.   On their way back, they realized that they had been deceived. Supplies such as ale, food and ammunition were running low. Yet they reoriented themselves and made a push towards the real capital.   The elves were ready and the dwarves were forced to besiege the capital as an assault would have been impossible to win.   With supplies running dry, the dwarves started starving and continuous skirmishes and harassing attacks by wood elf regiments into their flanks brought the dwarves to their knees.
They were forced to break the siege off and return home, or risk the death of the entire army.   The elves decided to follow the dwarves and attack them. The dwarves were expecting this, not having the strength to defeat the forces that were coming after them, they laid a trap.
Using the left over oils from their fire machines they spread it out on the ground, as soon as the elves walked into it they lit it on fire. Burning hundreds of elves to death.
The elves pressed on their attack, both sides lost many soldiers but ultimately the dwarves won and beat the elves into a retreat. Something they wouldn't have been able to if they haven't laid their trap.   The dwarves returned to Karak Lok to recover from their failed mission.
