Session 20: Ashes to Ashes

General Summary

With Loanedth, William Grimhound and Gul'Khaan safely on the roof of Lord Udon's state house, Nil-enor Ulkas finds himself surrounded by a group of guards with weapons drawn. Realizing no lie is going to get him out of this situation, Nil-enor creates a circle of silence, which covers the sound of Loanedth dropping the patrol leader, and sending psychic emanations through the mind of another. Gul'khaan provides support fire, and manages to send a bolt of eldritch energy so powerful that it instantly evaporates one of the guards. Nil-enor lays a hand on the only remaining guard, and channelling the strength of Ixdes, causes them to begin an early decomposition. Gul'khaan then throws down the rope, and helps Nil'enor onto the roof.
William enters one of the second floor windows, and his rage is palpable as he realizes he's landed in the marital suite. As the others make their way inside, William begins searching rooms. But as a wedding march begins, William starts heading for the alter. Loanedth attempts to pry open one of the stained glass windows to look inside the great hall, but inadvertently sends a piece of glass downward, shattering upon the hall floor and quickly drawing the attention of everyone within. And then everything goes haywire.
Guards begin firing at the window, attempting to strike the mushroom. One leaves via the main door to apprehend the group, and runs into an enraged William barreling down the stairs. William quickly convinces them to stay out of it. Meanwhile, the lords attending the would-be wedding panic, and attempt to escape the hall. Thinking quickly, Loanedth constructs a Molotov, and ensures no escapees. Gul'khaan and Nil'enor light up guards and the priest, who responds by creating a protective barrier of guardian spirits and ensuring U'la Grimhound is protected. One of the lords calls their colleagues 'cowards', and looses a few arrows in the direction of the broken window. With panic about, one of the guards attempts to flee through the kitchen, and is persued by Gul'khaan and Loanedth. One of the lords in attends tries their luck to flee through the burning flame, and ends up severely burned. In his place, William, wielding Mephiles, charges into the hall through the main door, and calls to his daughter. U'la has hope, and takes the opportunity to attack Lord Udon. It goes unsuccessfully, and Udon draws his blade on her, threatening U'la's life should William try anything. With Loanedth and Nil'enor fighting in the kitchen, and Gul trying to provide aid, there is a momentary standoff.
Until the priest of The Church of the Twins comes to their senses and attempts to attack Udon. Though they are unsuccessful, it provides William the moment he needs. With all his fury, and drawning the infernal power of the blade, William drags the blade on the ground and swings upward with the power of the sun. With a cackling laugh, the blade drives into Udon and instantly scorches his body beyond recognition, and the thunderous strike of the juggernaut sends the corpse flying into the grand stained glass window depicting the twins. Leaving a line of fire that seems to burn without fuel, the room is stunned into silence, and all the surviving lords shit themselves. U'la gives William a tight hug, and William picks her up princess style, and leaves via the kitchen. He is so distracted, he does not notice one of the remaining 6 orange gemstone at the hilt of Mephiles fade to grey.
Leaving the destroyed hall in their wake, the party makes a hasty escape into the sewer, but it seems the danger has hardly ended. Surrounded by the gunpowder, the court mage of Lord Udon's court has incapacitated Ve'dek and drawn a summoning circle. They monologue their intent to kill the lords and take power for themself, and sacrifice their own blood to draw forth black, abyssal fire. In the place of Ve'dek, a hulking, gorilla-like monster stands, with an Abyssal word from the mage, charges the group.
