The interdimensional transport vessel, Paragon has an auto-document feature which records all actions and onboard conversations by the crew and those offboard via the crew's communication ear phones and the helpful hoverbots which swarm around them.
These devices, plus the memory banks of the one crewmember who is an artificial person, can be used to construct a video presentation of everything that happens on a mission, however successful or tragic, exciting or mundane.
But who wants to take the time to watch it?
Fairly simple artificial intelligence software can pick out significant events and edit out insignificant moments, reducing a mission of several days to a more exciting two hour movie.
But who wants to take the time to watch it?
As technology progresses and the galaxy becomes more closely connected, a few minutes uninterrupted becomes more and more valuable to everyone from kings and queens to the scum of the earth. The art of curating valuable information and formatting it to get the point across quickly becomes equally valuable to those whose time is valuable.
Slightly more advanced AI can format still frame images which sum up the critical points of a scene and then overlay text snippets of the most important conversation.
People have time for comic books ... barely.
So the official records of the Paragon interdimensional transport shuttle are stored as comic books. Anyone who is interested in seeing the raw footage needs to speak up quickly, because the raw footage is compressed more each year, with slight losses in resolution, unless it is tagged as historically important. There is no point in saving footage for centuries of crewmembers cleaning their toenails, only the important stuff, only if someone recognizes it as important. But comic books take up very little space and get the gist of what happened, so that's the official record, for better or worse, or both.
