Shadow Elf *Moon Elf*

Long ago after a Drow civil war, the goddess Aeilistrea lead some of the Drow from the underworld to the surface world. These elves did not follow the ideals and hatred for the surface world that their kin did. Aeilistrea with her allied spirits bestowed upon them the power of shadow and the moon to defend against the forces from below. These blessed Drow would now be know as Shadow Elves, divine protectors from the world below and that which lurks in the dark. Aeilistrea would recruit and convert other elves into Shadow Elves, many of which were exiles of their race.   Shadow elves are a contradiction. They live within darkness and shadow, yet use this to battle against the same.   Shadow Elves have developed deep traditions and tend to keep the activities secret from outsiders. However they tend to travel the world in secrecy in search of covertly helping others in need and fighting evil from below. They are rarely seen outside their lands for they operate mainly within the shadows and in secrecy. For those that are familiar with their cousins, the Drow, they are often mistaken as such. Shadow elves are known to exist throughout the realm, even though rarely seen. There are stories and tales though that tell, if there are good dreams, then there must be a Shadow elf in the area. Many of these stories come from the knowledge that they are the children of Aeilistrea, the Goddess known for the moon(s), stars, prophesy, shadow and dreams. Like other Elves, Shadow Elves value their privacy and traditions, and while they are often slow to make friends at both the personal and national levels, once an outsider is accepted as a comrade, the resulting alliances can last for generations.   Physical description: Shadow elves possess a graceful, slender physique that is accentuated by their long, pointed ears. Slightly smaller than humans, averaging a height of between 4'7" to 5'10" and weigh between 100-160 lbs. Their skin tend to be a dark ashen grey to jet black. Their hair color is either bluish-grey, maroon red, or pure white and their eye color can range from Hazel, bright green, bright blue, violet, or silver.   Racial Professions unique to the Shadowvalians: Over the Millenia the Elves of Shadowvale have embraced their connection to the shadows and developed unique traits, honing their connection to their deity through prayer, training and study.  Some specialized clergy and shamans are specifically trained to embrace the moon and shadow through both faith and their own innate connection to the night. There are also specialty school of Warriors, Paladins and Infiltrators.  The Elves of Shadowvale have created a college or academy that trains a specialized class of Magic-user.   These Specialties draw upon the natural innate abilities of the Shadow Elf.

race features:
Superior Darkvision - Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.   Night Stalker - You have proficiency in the Perception, and Stealth skill.   Elven Resistance - You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.   Trance - Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.   Shadow Magic - You know the Ghost Sound cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Pass Without Trace spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the darkness spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.   Shadow Elf Weapon Training - You have proficiency with Shortswords, Scimitars, Starknives, and Hand crossbows.   Sunlight Sensitivity - You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.   Light Blindness - Abrupt exposure to bright light blinds Shadow Elves for 1 round; on subsequent rounds, they are affected as if in direct sunlight as long as they remain in the affected area.
