Darkshelf Settlement in Asyur | World Anvil

Darkshelf

Demographics

Approximately 19000; mixed elf and other civilized races.

Government

The city of Darkshelf is ruled by a Wizard Council whose members are selected from the 4 most powerful Wizarding families of the shelf. The leader of this family, the Bar, is easily the most hated by the local nonWizarding populace. As the Bar family supports and openly participates in the slave trade of Darkshelf.     If a person, wizard or not, is able to kill a Wizard in Darkshelf, no police or charges will come towards the winner. As shelf law sees it, the Wizard should have been magically capable to protect himself or prevent death. And if not. Then they aren't a strong enough Wizard for the shelf and should've been killed.
''...Besides, his servant spilled her blood all over me when I cut her. He clearly disserved to die.'' - a Bar Wizard on why he killed his neighbor.

Industry & Trade

Drakes Blood Brewery. All Drakes Blood Tequila is made from the rare sky blue agave plant from the tablelands. There are man farms set up in the desert around Darkshelf that harvest the plant, which is named for the red juice that oozes out of the agave when crushed, similar in color to the scales and blood of blue drakes of the region.

Tourism

Shale Cliffs. At the top of the cliffs is built a massive wall and defensive towers with turrets. Below this wall is the working docks for trappers and fishermen. The cliff walls themselves are a gray shale that stands some 500 feet out of the ocean.   Cliffs of Pknoctus. Near the Shale Cliffs, about 3 miles west, the Pknoctus cliffs are known for the black strips of basalt that stripe the green cliffs of shale. They create a stark striped look on the nearly 22 mile stretch of cliff.   Ruins of the Pharos. Near the village Sandy, just a short voyage west into the sea, visible from the shore, is a series of islands whose surface is scarred with the ruins of ages past. On the largest of these islands, is a large foundation that once held the Pharos of Darkshelf. It now sits a ruin and entrance to the forbidden labyrinth beneath.

Architecture

Many of the buildings of Darkshelf are low one-story buildings of sandstone or mudstone. The towers of the city are all Wizard towers, some made of sandstone and mudstone, others of basalt or marble, and some grown right out the ground through powerful nature magics. If you need to speak to a Wizard, and can't levitate, then good luck climbing a Wizard tower in Darkshelf. Wizards rule the city, and if you can't levitate like a 'normal Wizard', then you have no business speaking to a Wizard of Darkshelf.
