Elves

The elves of old were the pinnacle of civilization. They spanned the entirety of the world, were able to use magic before its corruption. They made wonders so far beyond us and our meager existence that we may never truly understand their use.    They were the beating heart of culture, philosophy, art, and faith, with no equal.    And they committed the greatest sin possible: They went to war with the Gods, and losts.   ~an excerpt from The Folly of the Elves

Civilization and Culture

History

Elves were among the first to awaken into sentience on the world. It is said they came into their understanding of it when the world was young. When the Gods themselves still sought to learn the extent of their strength. It is said they witnessed the glory of the Gods, and gave them not only worship, but counsel. It is said that the Gods gave them dominion over the world for the gift of their faith, and so they inherited it and became as stewards. They found the first children of Yasol, and gave unto them the wilds to call home, taught them the tongue, and charged them to record the histories. They built cities of shining light that shown like bonfires in the darkness. It is said they grew so powerful that they never grew sick, never grew old, moved past the need for food and sleep.   They witnessed the betrayal of the Gods against their own. Yasol sundered, his children broken, their minds reduced to that of beasts, and it is said that they sent warning to the Gods.
Forget not, beings of might, that our faith sustains you. That without our belief your strength flows like an empty stream. Do not do this thing.
But the Gods, refused their warning.

And so it is said that the Elves brought war against the Gods, for their reckless mistreatment of the world. They built ships, and sailed into the sky. The war lasted for a thousand years and a day, and in the end, many Gods were felled by the strength of the Elves. But the Elves, lost.

And for their hubris, they were broken. And for their arrogance, they were cast out. And it is said that when you look to the night sky, every pin prick of light is a ship, eternally burning as a monument to their failure.
