Drakkon Winglings

In the times of old, when the Dragonknights of Fanos were needed during times of conflict, or needed to send and receive messages and missives over long distances, the use of Drakkon Winglings were employed. A Drakkon Wingling is something akin to a small creature resembling a dragon or drake, though roughly the size of rabbit. While, like all dragons, they are not overly intelligent, they do possess a unique trait where in they bond for life with a single individual, and are capable of finding that individual across vast distances with pin point accuracy. It is for this reason, that every Dragonknight was assigned three Drakkon when they were inducted into the order, to be used by each of the major holdings in the republic should the need to contact them ever arise.

In modern times, Drakkon Winglings are used somewhat regularly for moving important missives and requests between the three grand cities in the region. Special individuals, called Roost Messengers, trained in the handling and care of the Drakkon keep them in well maintained 'Roost Houses' where they bond with several Drakkon Winglings. Those Drakkon are then taken to the other cities, where they are cared for by other Roost Messengers until such time as a message needs to be sent, in which time it is strapped to the Drakkon Wingling, and it is allowed to fly free and return to its bond mate. When the message is delivered, the Drakkon Wingling is allowed to rest with its bond mate for a day before it is carefully caged and returned via rider to the city of its origin.
Access & Availability
While it is common enough in Fanos that most people can recognize a Drakkon Wingling on sight, the use of one is restricted to only the elected officials of the republic, and the Dragonknights themselves.
