The Battle of The Red River

On that day the glorious blue shimmer of the Asinan river was made into a dull red glow.

The Conflict

Prelude

War had been raged between Evergreen and Felt for decades at the point of this battle. The Feltian army had suffered losses in several skirmishes recently and Evergreen had taken the opportunity to advance past the Asinan river.

Deployment

Evergreen fielded an army of 5000 soldiers against a small Feltian garrison of only 1000.

Battlefield

The battle took place on the green hills surrounding the Whisperbend outpost and the river fork upon which it stands.

Conditions

It was a beautiful summer day, with a light breeze sweeping over the countryside. It had not rained for days so the ground was quite dry.

The Engagement

The Evergreen army tried to lay siege to the garrison but was constantly driven back by the troops inside. The battle suddenly shifted when the Feltian army launched a stealth attack they had enabled by faking the act of throwing dead bodies into the river below their outpost.

Outcome

A stand-still in the war due to neither side having the resources to move against the other.

Aftermath

Lin Vasma always said that this battle was the turning point for her, where she decided that she had had enough of war. This would be the spark that lead to the unification of the entire country.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The battle is remembered as even worse than it was for those present, mostly because of the dramatic effect it would have on the war.

In Literature

Many stories, songs, paintings, and more have been created to reflect the battle. A very common motif is to depict Lin Vasma, or her thoughts, at the conclusion of the fight. She is often depicted in a white robe, contrasted against the red of the fields around her.
