WorldEmber 2024 - Shadows of the Necropolis

For the WorldEmber 2024 challenge, I will write about the upcoming campaing: Shadows of the Necropolis. This should give me the push I need to get ready for the start planned early 2025. As an extra challenge, I want to improve my CSS as well as I currently only have minor tweaks to a basic one and would like to give my works a distinctive look & feel. CSSember?

Assignments

Week 1

This week I got aware of the WorldEmber challenge and decided to hop-in since I am fairly new to the WorldAnvil community and challenges. I set myself with a basic goal of 10k words which should get me started on Shadows of the Necropolis campaign I plan to start when we complete our current Call of Cuthulu campaign. Yes, I know I cannot spell Chutulery...

Week 4

This week I finally have time to put some effort into Worldember prep. I've done a lot of wordsmiting on personal and professional levels and did not have time to write for Assëässe in the past two weeks unfortunately. So I'll try to do what any "sane person" would do and cram three weks into one...

Objectives

Community

I'll Go over some other Anvilites pages there are so many writers I can get inspired from and perhaps make some contacts. I should also poke my head into the "CSS Help" section again to fuel my interest. It's going to be tough not getting sidetracked with CSS...

Schedule
  • December 1: Write about the Savage Coast since that area of my world is so under developped. I barely know what's there and I have to do a whole campaing in tat area!! Target 3,000 words
  • December 8: I'll start easy and write about some points of interest in Whadi where PC's may interact the most or have questions. Target 6,000 words total
  • December 15: Not sure what I should fit there since I dont know if unpublished content counts. I have so many Necropolis maps to get ready and DM stuff to do. I'd easily hit the mak but with unpublished content. Target 9,000 words total
  • December 22: Make sure I hit the 10,000 words total mark , since I suspect I'll be busy that week I likely wont do much.
  • December 29: Do what I want! I'll be on vacation *maybe, so time to have fun!
Fresh Air

Out...side?? Ah! I think I got this one I helped the neighbour carry some firewood and hung the lights on the house with the GF over the weekend. Finally some progress :D

Week 3 (late)

Week 3 progress

Read and Watch
  • Finish reading "The Mist" from Stephen King, great mood for my story (Update 2025-01-04: I'm almost done only 20 pages to go. looks like I will complete this objective today! :) )
  • Finish watching "The Mist", to spot the differences with the book
  • Start playing "Return to Moria" with the "Unseen Crew" might give me ideas
  • Scan my just arrived "Grimtooth's Old-School Traps for 5E" book to sprinkle some traps around *evil laugh!

Conclusion

Last day of the competition and I am proud to announce I have reached my objective! It was a little more challenging than expected to set aside time to write but, I have crossed the finish line less than 24h before the end. This definitely helped a lot with my world building and it feels definitely richer.

I now have to concentrate on my campaign itself which will be mostly hidden content until players complete those sections. With a firmer grasp on Worldanvil and its capcities, I have everything I need to complete that content before my campaign starts likely in the spring at the rate we are currently plaing :D

This sounds like fun, I love some desert articles. Looking forward to read more - and have a great Worldember!

Sit down, my friend, and let me tell you of Aran'sha . A world where the sands shift and the stars sing, where the wind carries secrets and the twin moons keep silent vigil over it all.
