Pondmouth
Descendant of the Cavemouth that inhabits The Great Forest and the Rolling Valley.
More agile than it's cousins, it is a carnivorous ambush predator that digs pits underground to leave it's mouth as it's only visible part. Once it's settled into it's pit, it waits for rainwater to fill it's mouth, to which it will resemble a small pond.
It will pounce and devour any creature that goes near enough to the pond to drink the water or to bathe. Unlike the Cavemouth, they are slimy and have powerful claws they use to dig, or to catch prey, though they do prioritize swallowing their prey whole in one motion, rather than giving them a chance to escape.
The Pondmouth cannot last as long as the Cavemouth without eating, and will relocate it's pit if it doesn't get enough food in an area.
You can tell a pond is dangerous if there is a ring of stones around it, which are the Pondmouth's front row of teeth.
