Five Kingdoms of the Old Wood
To the East of The Reikvaldt, along the Green Sea Coast, lies the Old Wood, the ancient and mysterious home of the wood elves. The thick foliage of the Old Wood covers five separate but mostly interchangeable kingdoms: Argwyllion, Evermore, Tanath, The Bellic, and Claxtlé. Joined in confederation six centuries ago, the Five Kingdoms are joined defensively and economically, but not politically. Each kingdom has their own royal line, and tradition dictates that no kingdom will assist in the civil war of another, however that hasn’t stopped them helping before.
Each of the kingdoms is ruled by a king and a small advisory council. Below them are the Vents, the rough equivalent to a Thing or a Dronima. Due to the small population and large size of each kingdom and the relatively anarchic nature of their inhabitants these are the only two units of government (outside the Huntsman). This has also led to a quite de-stratified society wherein there is very little in the way of an aristocracy or upper class.
The Kingdom’s of the Old Wood have very little in the way of large-scale manufacturing or production, rather, they rely on a combination of subsistence agriculture/hunting and rare herb harvesting. This leads to a small volume of exports, but the high value of the products more than makes up for it. The highly coveted crivé root is one of the main exports, along with more mundane products like truffles and yew tree sap. The kingdoms have no trading fleet, instead relying on Velemin feitoria’s to facilitate their export.
There is only a single military organization within the Old Wood: The Huntsmen. Funded and manned jointly by all five kingdoms, The Huntsmen are premier guerilla fighters who excel at hit and run attacks and wilderness survival. The Huntsmen draw from all walks of life and all social classes, and even includes a fair number of non-elves. Thanks to the long lives of its members, The Huntsmen have a massive number of veterans from the time of the Spawn Wars, having served as scouts and advisors to every army that fought and having been the only force to mount an expedition to the interior of Orthon lands.
The Thalador are the religion of choice for the Kingdoms, however they make no effort to dissuade or outlaw the worship of other deities, and a number of shrines and sacred groves exist throughout the Old Wood. Evermore, due to it’s slightly more urbanized nature, is home to the only full temple in the Old Wood: an abbey to Sirona that serves as a pilgrimage spot for the more religious elves.
