The Moonlit King
In the early ages of the world the king of the dark elves was named the King Shadow Hunter. But as the mantle of responsibility was passed to one man he took up arms to concor all of the fay wilds as his own, the lands of both Shadowfell and the Faywilds. for the most part his campaign to take the last corner of the shadowfell went well, however his wife saw the growing madness within him, his selfishness and fauls rightness raising an army of her own to combat and stop him.
The difference in their style of rule was stark, while the king encouraged people to join him with fauls promises and lies, riding his mount high above his people, his wife ruled with hard honesty and solem strictness, while fighting with her soldiers on the ground. This inevitably meant her armies were smaller, but the two were overall evenly matched. It wasn't until the Bear King of the faywilds finally joined, after hearing word of the Shadow Hunter's plans. With the battle turning her way the shadowhunter's wife changed tactics, moving among the enemy soldiers she began whispering the truth into their ears, slowly turning his whole army against him. Too late he realised he was going to loose, and in his madness and rage retreated to the centre of the shadowfell and a hub of power, hoping to gain enough to win the battle and even the war all on his own.
But his wife predicted his plan and a single guard had been posted to stop him. The guard was a brute of a man, and never said much, he cared dearly for the wife and didn't want his lands to be ruled by the tirent the shadowhunter had become. As the king approached the brute blocked his way without a word and the king became enraged. he saw he could not beat the brute with strength so tried to manipulate the man's mind. However his will was stead fast as all of his loyalty was unwavering for the wife. the king began to try tricks and magic nothing seeming to work and the brute stood still and solid. In a fit of magical rage the king thumped the ground like an ungrateful child, and still the brute did not budge, the explosion rocking the surrounding area. It was not until the arrival of the wife that his defence shifted, her presents distracting him from his task allowing the king to slip past.
Upon seeing the misstep the wife yelled at the brute, dashing into the grotto quickly, followed by the bear king. The brute was saddened by his failure and followed inside hoping to be able to make up for the mistake, though it was long a forbidden place to go.
A great battle ensued, the shadowhunter was strong despite his appearance and within the grotto the powers of darkness strengthened him, but as the brute joined the fray, the battle slowly tiped in the wife's favour. As the battle was won, the powers left the king and the wife called to them asking them to make her the new queen of the shadow fay, while a large part of the magics responded a lesser amount broke off, rewarding the brute for his part in the battle. This changed the magics that crowned the shadowhunter, rendering the title little meaning. The wife became the queen of shadows and magic, while the brute took on the pursoner of the hunter, becoming The Lord of the Hunt.
The new queen's first act was to imprison the old king, who's waning powers gave him the title of the moonlit king, he became locked atop an infinite tower which in turn was protected by a labyrinth of sorts. Next the queen banished the brute for failing to stop the moonlit king from entering the grotto and the bear king added to the banishment for his entering of such an important place and stealing some of its power. This sent the brute to the mortal realms of Asenguard where he was forced to wander, not welcome to either realm. He became the spirit of the wild hunt aiding the fledgling elves in their first settlement.
