Felle's Kiss

A fungal plague, Felle's Kiss is a devastating sickness that spreads rapidly across land borders and has threatened the entire human population. The origins of the plague are unknown for certain, but due to the naming of it most people associate it with the ruler of the Mourningstars, Israfel, as its spread was noted not long after his arrival to the continent.

Transmission & Vectors

The plague is transmitted through fungal spores in the air that attach to the lungs upon contact with the body. While animals can carry it as well, the symptoms do not affect them and instead just cause them to spread the plague around more. Once a victim develops difficulty breathing, that is when the spores multiply and spread from the body back into the air.

Causes

Strangely enough, intense versions of this plague have been traced back to coming into contact with the Brightmetal crown given to the ruler of Ikthal as a sign of peace from the Mourningstars. All other causes seem to lead back to one of the people that have been in contact with it, non-human and human alike.

Treatment

For many, prayer is used to slow down the symptoms, as well as encouragement to breathe shallowly. Isolation can be key as well until the air has been purified, often by scenting a room and body with blessed oils and leaving the afflicted inside until the scents have dissipated. Warm ingestibles that coat the throat also are used to help ease any pain experienced by the afflicted.

Affected Groups

This plague may be carried by any living species but seems to target only humans with its negative effects. Those with mixed-blood or magical influence have a slight resistance to infection.

Hosts & Carriers

Folklore states that living beings that carry it have an indigo-esque shine to their eyes that mimics how Israfel's feathers look. Outside of that, it is uncertain to externally tell who carries the plague within them, as all living creatures have the ability to carry it.

Prevention

-isolationism, perfumes, blessings

Epidemiology

-the long birth, festivals, isolationism

Cultural Reception

Due to the nature of the end-stage of Felle's Kiss, some people in Durkab take it willingly to become closer to their leader. Once they have gone through the cycle and are both undead and alive, they often are trained in the arts of war-mages, having access to a magic that was previously unavailable to humanity.    In countries outside of Durkab the afflicted are shunned and feared, often to the point of being run out of town or murdered by the local populace to avoid a stronger outbreak in town.
