Redacre Settlement in Arvor | World Anvil

Redacre

Redacre is the capital city of the Red Realm, and was once the most magnificent city in all of Arvor. With the death of King Galvyn XII in the final days of the Last King's War, the kingdom was left with no heir to the throne at its lowest moment. The succession crisis turned bloody, and the Red Realm traded its conquering war for civil war. In the conflict, the capital city – once the crown's most lustrous jewel – was ruined. After years of conflict, the kingdom found tenuous peace in an agreement called The Concordance. Today, Redacre is the seat of the Regent of the Crimson Crown, an Archduke elected by the Council of Peers.

Demographics

Humans make a slight majority in Redacre, and they dominate the nobility. The city also has a large Gnomish population, around twenty percent. Elves make up just over ten percent of the population, and many primarily human families have branches of half-elven blood.

Government

Like all of the Red Realm, Redacre is controlled by the Crimson Crown, currently in the stewardship of the Archduke Regent of the Crimson Crown and the Council of Peers. Because the regency is not a permanent position, the Archdukes often tend more directly to the affairs of their duchy seats than the capital.   The Council of Peers appoints the Lord Mayor from the local nobility to administer the day-to-day affairs of the city. The Lord Mayor governs in collaboration with the Merchants' Court, a body consisting of representatives from the city's chartered guilds. The current Lord Mayor is Baron Frederick Sevenoke.   As with all cities in the Red Realm, Redacre is policed and defended by the Crimson Guard. It is also common for the noble houses to employ their own private security, ranging from guards to investigators to assassins.
