Yellow-Striped Even Segmented Centipede
There are two types Centipedes, the uneven and even segmented types in the World. In our world only uneven Segmenten exist but in this world there are both.
However, only the uneven Segmented reach giant sizes. One of the most spektakular of the giant ones ist the Yellow-striped even segmented Centipede.
This omnivorous species is known to occur in the Jerulian Jungle but is seen as rather uncommon due to many expiditions of adventurers in the past, which were quick to slay the creatures. Juveniles are rather nomadic and wander around the forest litter always searching for new food. Adults on the other hand become sessile and either burrow their own nest or occupy an existing cave or burrow. Thus, grown up centipedes can often be found in smaller caves, or ruins.
Notably, like many giant arachnoid and insectoid species, they have a higher tolerance against poison, pollution and diseases. This also enables them to live in some miasma affected places, like near or even in dungeons. Howver, this ability usually only extends to subadults and adults of a species for yet unknown reasons.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
There is a slight sexual bimorphism, the females are slightly larger and more brownish. The males on the other hand have bigger pincers and stronger yellow stripes.
Adult females built nests in burrows. They choose an adequate male by trying to fend it off and only males that can defeat or subdue the male are allowed to stay. Then they form a mating pair that protect their nest and occassionally go on hunting and gathering trips. Even after a mating pair forms it can take several years until the female lays eggs for the first time. The trigger for this is as of yet unknown but could be connected to available ressources.
Growth Rate & Stages
A freshly born Centiped is only 10 centimetres. They undergoe typically 16 moltings until adulthood.
