House Yotamo

The House of Yotamo

"The world needs heroes who will stand for others as well as themselves. For our world, we fight for compassion."

"One heart can be strong, but more than one can be indomitable. The world is not for one being alone. When we fight, we fight for unity."

"Our ability to connect to the hearts of others is a strength that forges bonds stronger than steel. With our hearts, we deliver empathy."

Structure

Just like every house that is part of Astra Nova, House Yotamo is overseen and headed by a teacher at the school and accomplished member of the faculty, who also functions as that specific houses homeroom teacher.

Underneath the Head of House is a singular esteemed student of the upper-class of that particular house, chosen by the Head themselves. This student leader is deemed as the "House Scion" and serve as role models, team leaders, mentors, and liaisons between the students and faculty.

The house is then made up of a student body of young initiate heroes who always meet first with their homeroom teacher in a large seminar style class before being released to attend the rest of the classes assigned to their pre-determined schedules.

Students are sometimes assigned to upkeep the House with cleaning tasks or other chores.

Public Agenda

House Yotamo is a school body of empathetic heroes who are in touch with the innate feelings and states of mind that make up the concept we call emotions and compassion. They are heroes of the heart and soul, whose conviction to the cause originates from the wish to protect others and maintain an optimistic future for themselves and others. Students in this house are asked to find within themselves the will and mindset to harbor bonds with others and to hone their skills at evaluating the character of those they interact with. Never assume Yotamo students are weak or incapable due to their abilities coming tied more prominently to supporting others. Their three edicts, encouraged more regularly than any others are:

Vigilance - A student of House Yotamo are taught how to take charge in situations where their guidance can rouse allies to work together. They are taught how to better weed out dishonesty and how to grow true, positive relationships. They learn powerful techniques both magical and mundane that keep them and their team from harm. In and out of classes and activities, these students are encouraged to be perceptive of others and what they can do to prevent or dissolve issues or concerns. Yotamo students are just as likely to stop an enemy's incoming attack as they are to offer themselves as a comforting advisor to a perturbed associate.

Unity - Yotamo students are educated to understand that carrying good company is as important to a mission as a blade, wand, or piece of armor. Through the power of understanding how others think and feel, students in House Yotamo become more perceptive on how to keep a team of heroes working smoothly and garner the trust of other folk easily.

Empathy - Sometimes seen as the most notorious trait Yotamo students possess is their keen sense of empathy and assessment of the effect of their actions on others. Kindness can spark a domino effect of the same charities payed forward to others in response. To the House of Yotamo, heroism has a root in what positive influence it can spark in others. Bringing comfort to those who feel insignificant and standing to protect those without the opportunity to defend themselves from oppression and harm deserve someone to make a claim for their lives, and Yotamo students want to grow and train to be those heroes that let their relationship with other heroes and the populace be sentimental and meaningful.

Each house has two of said selections, and students are allowed to swap the scheme they where at any time by notifying Mx. Alabaster in the Development and Design Department. The student dress code is made up of a house designated top accompanied by a black or white tank top or crew shirt, shoes, and the student's choice of pants, leggings, or skirt, all of which come in black or white and are available to any student regardless of season. History

Yotamo is a figure celebrated in The Isle of Mist more than other parts of Sonenheim, but that doesn't make his message and accomplishments any less valued. Hailing from humble, albeit semi mysterious origins, and always depicted and described as a round bellied and jolly bearded man in purple, Yotamo came into the light of society in small ways amongst taverns and travel roads, a wandering man who would entertain and talk with strangers throughout the island, as well as escort and guard lone and vulnerable travelers from bandits along roads with his impressive swordsmanship skills. His true rise to an icon started when he meets the cursed young daughter of a powerful clan in Tadasu. This princess, named Saeki Tadasu, is cursed with being permanently invisible and unable to be heard or felt as if a ghost due to the spiteful and envious actions of a god she was unwillingly offered up to by her power hungry father. Seeking to provide her both comfort and a way to free herself from the curse, he vows to help her, and that she may accompany him herself. When she asks how he can even perceive and even feel her, he reveals that Yotamo is actually born of a bloodline tainted by presence of oni blood inside it, meaning he is in some part ogre, and therefore able to see other spirits and beings like him. The pair travel for some time before Yotamo eventually gets an answer from a sympathetic deity looking to make a deal. In exchange for a life of charity and his death at the end of a host of years, the deity would free Saeki of her curse as well as be able to undo the influence of Seaki's father's bargaining with his nefarious benefactor, turning Yotamo into a martyr for change in The Isle. Yotamo agrees and is given a large cast iron cauldron he begins to tote around for the rest of his life. The cauldron gives him the ability to make food out of nothing but singular grains of rice and medicine from blades of grass to cure many ailments, dispensing them freely to those deserving the help, making banquets out of essentially nothing. He and Saeki eventually fall in love and even conceive a child, though the child would not be born before Yotamo's demise. Yotamo's end came when in a fated confrontation, Saeki's father had found out of both Saeki's presence with him and his attempts to stop him, and brought a league of soldiers to apprehend Yotamo. Though Yoptamo could have easily fought them off given enough time, he instead surrendered peacefully, not wishing to bring harm to soldiers he willingly believed to be innocent of the daimyo's crimes. He was apprehended and hung up on a metal cross like structure as a show meant to discourage those who would oppose the daimyo, but instead, it only rallied people, and Yotamo, not fearing his fate, inspired others to fight the bonds of unfair oppression that plagued the Isle, eventually leading to a long standing civil war that eventually ended with the entire northern half of the Isle having a shift in government from unsanctioned independent lords each ruling their own city-states to a unified government under a populace-voted representative, whilst the royal bloodline functioned as more ceremonial and cultural leaders. Yotamo's martyrdom when on to become a symbol of how selfless acts have real effects, and just what the power of compassion and unity can accomplish.Full Story

Stereotypes
Sonnungr "We have a hard time keeping up with you sometimes, but it's always worth it. There's something energizing about finding out what is out there alongside you when we actually do get the chance. At the very least, tell us about it afterwards, that can always fill dead air on a boring afternoon. In all honesty though, I think that there is such thing as too daring. The unkown is feared for a reason. A strong heart will carry us both far, but don't let your head get too big in your quest for glory."
Corvian "Your laid back approach to things is nice sometimes. It's nice not to need to rush around or think too much on esoteric things when you're around. Honestly though, don't you think it gets a bit tiring being so neglectful of your successes? Nobody said you had to act like you are a nobody to avoid being seen as vein. Trying to do something nice for you for the sake of being nice is hard. A lot of us find it a bit hard to deal with how insistent you are on denying help because it'd be somehow unfair to us, or going to extremes to repay us."
Mandalay "We appreciate you're hard work, we really do. It feels like you're trying to leave the rest of us in the dirt though. It's interesting seeing just what you'll do next, and watching you improve, especially if we were able to be there to help you do so, is a great feeling. A lot of other houses think you go overboard, and, well, we think so too sometimes. But like any good person, we don't hold it against you, it's just your taste for the zeal of life we all are looking for."
Solos "It's inspiring seeing you trying to take on such a hard to manage task as live a life of moderation. You say some of the wisest nuggets of wisdom. Watching your conduct with others sometimes is off putting though. I know that you mean the best, but trying to mold and change others to fit your ideals is hard and not a good approach. We follow in your footsteps by trying to as evenly as possible keep our views and efforts on people, but we don't plan on sitting idly and not harboring close support with those who deserve more of our time and company."
