Shorts for Spooktober 2022

I had not planned to enter this month's competition, but inspiration seized me.
This short story (1400 words) was inspired by the combination of the prompts and a really interesting concept article (Soul Jars) by Amélie I. S. Debruyne and is used with her permission - Thank You Amélie! Links to her work that inspired me is in the article. For Spooktober prompts I used the words: "Portrait, Broken, Mist, Whisper, Shadow, Spirit, Relic, Unquiet, Shatter, Lock, Door, Curse, Possess, Abyss, Echo, Darkness, and Hunt" in this story.

This gets me over the badge requirements and completes the full 31 prompts. A new magical item that is sunken beneath the icecap of the Northern Wastes in the Sunken Reliquary of Cairn. Includes the prompts "Vanish, Enchant, Misfortune, Chasm, Thorn, Howl, Mirror, Escape, Slime, Haunt, Ruin, Mist, Relic, Lock, Tear and Drown".

This one is just a 2 sentence story. I'll be tweeting it as #HorrorAnvil. Inspired by the prompt "Abandoned":

"I still hate you, but you were right; she took all my money and left me."
