Saltlanders
A Hardy People
The Saltlanders are known for their resilience and strength, forged by the windswept sea and the rugged Saltlands into a folk whose minds are as tough as their wiry bodies. They are skilled mariners and fishermen, adept at navigating the treacherous waters of the Ragar Sound and the Windward Sea to the east. Their knowledge of the sea is almost unmatched and they are regularly sought as boatsmen and sailors.
Culture and Society
Saltlander society is rooted in tradition and superstition. Their culture is built heavily around the duality of Thalassa, whom they honour in both her forms with sacrificial rituals and offerings, along with a pantheon of lesser sea gods and spirits. These beliefs influence many aspects of their daily lives, from the way they build their homes to how they conduct trade and fishing expeditions.
The Saltlanders are known for their cunning wits and being shrewd traders, with an uncanny knack of finding an advantage in almost every deal. Saltlander merchants have established thriving trade networks around the islands, ensuring regular imports for the islands needs and a steady demand for the islanders fish exports.
Fearsome Fighters
The Corsairs are a scourge around the Salt Isles. The Saltlanders are hardy fighters, highly skilled with their long mariner's knifes. Many Saltlanders join the corsairs, becoming feared pirates themselves and raiding coastal towns and settlements.
