Ragar Sound

The Ragar Sound is the expansive inland sea to the west of The Salt Isles, lying between the Saltlands and The Concordium of Skye. It is a place of peril and wonder, it's cobalt waters shift with unseen currents, hiding fertile shallows and treacherous depths. The water is often calm and serene, but it's tranquility can turn in a moment when cold winds from the north buffet the prevailing easts, whipping up violent squalls that threaten any vessel caught unprepared.   Black-sailed Corsairs prowl the sound, en-route from their hideaways and ports across the Salt Isles and the colder isles to the north, or raiding ships looking to prey on fishing boats or hapless merchantmen. Slaving is rife among the corsair fleets, and Glasryan dragon-ships visit the corsair kings every year to collect their tribute, and pay handsomly for further quotas.   Another feature of the Ragar Sound is Thalassa's Breath; a drifting fog that periodically shrouds it's waters. This ethereal mist, born from the cold northern air and the warm humid waters to the south, often obscures the sound for days. The fog is a both blessing and curse, providing a veil of cover from the corsair ships, but it is also said that strange creatures lurk under the fog, drawn to the hapless and lost, and tales abound of ships vanishing without a trace and their crews never seen again.   Despite these dangers, the Ragar Sound holds a strong allure for local mariners and merchant vessels. It's waters are rich in fish and yield generous hauls throughout the year. The Saltlanders thrive almost exclusively from it's endless shoals and merchant vessels from across the realms turn a steady profit supplying the Isles with metals and cloth in exchange for barrels of preserved fish.
