Dest Settlement in Aroka: Fallen World | World Anvil

Dest

Establishing settlements and strongholds on Okanu has always been challenging due to the harsh nature and savage wildlife, but this did not deter early efforts to establish multiple footholds on the island. Morydal, especially, felt that their survivalist lifestyle honed to perfection in their homeland could brave the wilderness and extend their influence. In addition to their primary settlement of Sard on the southern end of the island, they founded an outpost to the north in the southwestern corner of the Yova Bay. Their hopes were to develop this outpost into a trade hub and harbor to rival Amyhra and increase their influence in the Tryvyum Trade Consortium    However, shortly after its establishment, strange events began to occur. Supplies would disappear and and well-maintained gear would break. Initial theories suggested sabotage on behalf of Cogys operatives and maybe even Ohedyn extremists, but no evidence was found to support that. The mischief soon grew malicious as structures began to collapse, food and water rendered inconsumable, and "accidental" injuries became a common occurrence. At night, strange sounds could be heard coming from the surrounding jungle and reports of figures watching from just beyond the torchlight became the norm.    Suddenly, reports from Dest ceased. Several ships were sent to investigate and all they found was an empty outpost with not a single trace of life. No bodies were found and there were no signs of struggle. Not even footprints leading into the jungle or to the shore could be found. Everyone had simply vanished. There was, however, a lingering presence, an eeriness that weighed heavy on the outpost. Though no one officially resides there, adventurers will often spend the night within its walls vice the dense jungle surrounding it. Almost without fail, they report disturbing noises, movement in the shadows, and a foreboding presence. Some say it is the spirits of those that vanished while others say it is the essence of what took them. Whatever it is that haunts this place, few stay long enough to find out.
