Stamatios Elias

The Triton family life in Thalassa is strange to outsiders. Reproduction and child rearing are seen as a privilege, given by proven competence, stable financial status, and willingness. This privilege will earn the chosen parents years of leave from their professions with which to focus on their offspring.
Thusly was Stamatios born, son of a pair of soldiers. His mother had complications in birth, dying in the process. His father, with some assistance, was able to take 7 years to raise him before submitting him to the schooling system. He was brought up to be strong, obedient, but kind and discerning as well. This helped his studies, guiding him into developing a talent for fighting and tracking.
In his 13th year, Stamatios was brought into the Military Academy to train as his father had. He learned to hunt the stranger creatures, things foreign to the plane. He learned of a miles-long planar breach north of the city that sometimes let these terrible creatures through. He made it his mission to get assigned to this position, to stand guard for his people.
His determination -- and kindness -- brought him a small circle of friends, ones that found his very clear-cut morality both endearing and inspiring. The pair, Nestoras and Panos, took to his honesty and bluntness, following him through the academy to graduation and beyond.
The three young bucks eventually found their way from city guard duty into the Border Patrol, being assigned to a Lieutenant Adriana Comi for the specialized training of watching the Borders -- both regular and extraplanar. Stamatios found this intelligent, dangerous woman to be the first in his life worth paying attention to.
Over 30 years, the three became four, a proper squad known as the 213th Abyssal Guard. Their symbol became a long-skulled, snarling, snaggletoothed, tentacled head with a trident stabbed through the mouth. Stamatios pursued a relationship with Adriana, who eventually agreed to marry him after 10 years of building trust. Their marriage got strained when a promotion came in for Stamatios, advancing him to Captain over Adriana. It definitely appeared as though his masculinity had played a deciding factor. In a sort of retribution, he would continue to bring her to meetings, deferring to her advice in most decision making. She was smarter and more qualified; he knew it and was not ashamed.
After their 30 years in the service, the squad retired. They all settled down. Tritons, having a longer life span, can focus on having families well beyond their 60s. And this is what the Elias family did. They struggled to get pregnant for many years, though. Years of rough living had taken a strong toll on Adriana's body.
Healing magicks and time brought them the child they had hoped for. Iacovos was treated like a gift. They taught him together, helping guide their son as he realized his martial gifts and natural understanding of his body.
As Iacovos graduated, war flared with the Sahuagin. Still capable retired soldiers, like Stamatios' unit, were called up in defense of the kingdom. They served and hunted honorably until their final mission, a hit on a merrow warlord -- an old informant of theirs. The team realized they had to act. Helping the warlord's tribe escape, the team was prepared to come in for treason. Stamatios demanded he be the only one, clapping himself in manacles and demanding the others turn him in.
Proving her worth to him yet again, Adriana was able to argue his case well enough to get him exiled instead of put to death. Their son watched in shame as his father was locked in a cage with his gear and teleported to Eragoth, giving him a chance to survive on the surface.
Upon exploring around, Stamatios found surface dwellers in battle with snake people that seemed to be laying siege to a large city. He took a side, seeing a half elf with sword drawn leading the defense. He wandered into the fray, making friends with the Lord Sylas Fenheart in battle.
When Sylas got word of Aynor being liberated, he brought the curious Stamatios along to see his once and future home. A crew of the adventurers that liberated the town came to Sylas with a proposition: they wished to liberate his original home of Hawk Island from the vampires that now held sway over its enslavement.
That proposition spoke to Stamatios, who jumped at the opportunity to give a purpose to his life.
In his most recent accomplishment, he has brought the bronze wyrm -- Teniinu Amaak Alamayhee the Second -- to help the war effort in Thalassa. This has called his exile into question.

He is extremely agile and strong, but only slightly above average when it comes to endurance.

Sharp nose, angular features, high cheekbones. Thick eyebrows that make him look to be in a perpetual frown. His eyes are almond shaped and green. He has lines around his eyes from both scowling and laughing. His skin is grey tinged with green.

Left handed. He walks like a man always on edge, but his eyes betray that he always looks around with wonder. When he sits, it is always rigidly upright. Chairs are weird.

Failures & Embarrassments

He was given an order to take his squad into the Underdark to carry out an assassination. He agreed to do it, but it weighed on his conscience. When his squad reached the target, they found that it was the young child of a merrow warlord. On top of that, the hit was purely political. It was a merrow lord who was not a threat. He was, in fact, an ally to the squad, giving them information. He couldn’t carry it out. Knowing that his squad would be blamed, he told them to take him in as a traitor. He was exiled and told never to return.
