Catrine Ticker

- (a.k.a. Cat/Curtie/Kiki/Christmas/etc.)

First and last in a short line of Royal Tinkers, Catrine Camilla Katherine Cortana Kalisto Curtis ect. Ticker is a gnomish rogue hailing from Eregoth with a violent need to understand all she can. Exceedingly timid and exceptionally scared of most creatures she meets, she is regardless one of the the most well-versed in magical and non-magical technology in the underground and about.

Physical Description

Body Features

Catrine stands at 4’01”- quite tall for a gnome. She has light, warm-toned skin, dark brown hair and brown almond eyes. Her hair is kept in a simple bob with blunt bangs that she maintains herself. Her elven ears point downwards. Along the left side of her face is a series of small, scratch-like scars caused by flying shrapnel. The largest scar cuts across her nose and into her brow.

On the back of her left shoulder is a large, twisted scar that spreads from her from her left shoulder blade to ¼ down her left arm. After befriending Quethon Abot Jayvos, she received a dragon mark. The red mark wraps around her eyes and continues from the top of the left shoulder to the back of her right leg.

To those who can see it, her right hand is imprinted with a faintly glowing mark of a handshake with Dormír.

General Physical Condition

Catrine is particularly agile for a rock gnome from years of running and espionage work; however, her upper body strength is very poor due to her heavily injured left shoulder. She has an exceptionally hard time lifting/pushing/etc.

Physical Quirks

She generally keeps herself in a poor posture, hunching over constantly unless in the presence of someone she deems incredibly respectable. After years of hunching over a desk and a few more crouching in the shadows, she finds standing straight to be uncomfortable.

Her voice is high pitched with a lot of vocal fry. She is a frequent stutterer, mostly tripping over first syllables and repeating words several times over.

Apparel & Accessories

Catrine prefers dark, loose clothes that allow easy movement. The most consistent part of her attire is a belt that includes her Thieves tools and Tinkering Tools; she will have these on her regardless of what else she is wearing, often hiding it under her clothes or by a sash. She has a fondness for brass and copper trinkets, and will wear them or attach them to her belt if they do not make any noise when she moves.

Personal history

When she was young, Catrine and her family were brought in by the royal House Cervantes for their tinkering abilities. However, an experiment gone awry using previously unknown technology caused an explosion that destroyed their entire lab, killing all but Catrine and her brother. By the time help had arrived in their underground workshop, the fire had destroyed the bodies of their parents, aunt and uncle too far for resurrection. Distraught and fearful that the royal house did not care whether her family lived or died, she took all of what remained of her family's destroyed research and fled in hopes of continuing their work.

Out on the streets with no social prowess and quite a lot of unusual information, Catrine soon fell into dangerous company. While searching for new resources to start her own research, she was taken in by several rogues to their boss. Their boss, the local head of a national criminal organization, offered the young gnome her life and a wealth of resources in exchange for her talents and whatever information she could gather. Scared and not knowing what else to do, she accepted the deal.

As magical items were seen as a far more valuable to the underground than her clockwork experiments, Catrine threw herself into research of magic far past the enchantments she and her family cast on their inventions. Over the years, she became known for being able to identify a number of magical items, and equally well known for being able to make convincing counterfeits of said magical items. She was tasked with various counterfeiting schemes, some going far better than others, some of which ended with her becoming possessed for some periods of time. (One of which she became possessed for some period of time. It was quite the time to be sure.)

Though she had created a name for herself below Cervantes, the information she needed to continue where her family failed was nowhere to be found in the city. After nearly ten years of successful espionage, she was able to convince her higher-ups to allow her to leave on her own investigations into other magic items and developing technology so long as she continued to return and report her findings. She accepted this fact, knowing there is no escape from their Knowing eyes.

Morality & Philosophy

“Knowledge is the universal leveling ground- those who are in the “right” deserve the most powerful knowledge.” She figures ends usually justify the means.

Growing up under the crown, she loves her home country of Eregoth very much, but after being underground for so long and seeing the internal wars they wage with each other, she finds them inherently corrupt, too blinded by pride and wealth to lead properly.

No matter the course of the war, she rejects entrusting powerful knowledge that could directly aid Keldan. After being raised in the heart of Eregoth, her anti-Keldan entiments are extremely deep rooted.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Her main motivation is to recreate and perfect the machinery her family left behind; most specifically, she desires to reverse engineer what destroyed their laboratory.

Virtues & Personality perks

If she agrees with the actions of a person or party, Catrine will wholeheartedly devote herself to their cause. This commitment will often supersede her naturally cowardly nature, but may also erode quickly if she finds herself disagreeing with the actions of the person/party.

Vices & Personality flaws

Weary of most people and conscious of her own life, she will comply with actions she wouldn’t otherwise under the threat of self destruction. She is also extremely stubborn and is self-assured she knows what is “right” at any given time. If it comes to it, she will take situations into her own hand without informing others should she not like the direction they are taking.

Personality Quirks

  • She has many aliases and will give any new person she meets a different name.
  • She gets extremely excited by the promise of new items to study and may lock herself away to investigate them.
- Despite this, after watching her family pushed to the brink while in the troughs of inventing, she tries her
best to avoid doing that to herself by actually trying to eat/sleep/wash regularly even when it’s not
extremely convenient to do so.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Burt (former party member) - She respects his commitment to defending Eregoth and the seriousness of which he pursued justice. Thinks he is the hero Eregoth needs.

Quethon Abot Jayvos (helped save) - She is awestruck by the young dragon and realizes how vital he is to all of Eregoth. She is extremely defensive of him.

Myndir Aladran (Associate and “Friend”) - Their disastrous circumstances of meeting and subsequent shenanigans have left her very weary of him; however, she is amazed by the extent of his magical research and respects his stance on the acquisition of knowledge (i.e. those who aren’t doing anything meaningful with it shouldn’t have that knowledge)

Yastel Merrid (Boss)- Catrine is not a fan of the cut-throat underground of Cervantes, but knows that she has to treat her boss with the uptmost respect regardless.

Dormír (once employer) - Intimidated by his presence though intrigued by his enigmatic goals; she regrets coming into contact with him, but knows it can't be avoided now.

Family Ties

Rowan Ticker (Brother) - Older brother who she has not had contact with since the destruction of their laboratory. Despite their closeness his reluctance to continue research after the accident caused her to leave him as he recovered on bad terms. She constantly worries about his health, but she would rather not have him learn what business she's resorted to doing.
