THE SONG OF GEDOR

The Song of Gedor as it is counted:
“A leader in Pharas took the lead,
A venerable elder volunteered for battle,
Bless Hayah!

Hear, O Kings; listen, O rulers!
Hayah’s name shall be sung,
I shall praise Hayah, the God of Pharas.

Hayah, when you sent forth Gedor,
When you marched to the fields of Sarton,
The heavens shook, the veil shuddered.

When a wicked Champion of Sarton ventured forth,
To harm a people who did no offense,
To make a war without just cause,
Risan pledged to his gods to commit slaughter

A Sarton magi pledge to his gods,
To inflict curses and destruction,
Upon Pharas for selfish gain,
For vainglory and wicked profit

O Gedor, brave elder who faced death,
O mighty elder of valour,
Your heart thundered as you face death,
You stared into the eyes of a wicked Champion

You saw the face of a man who cut down fierce barbarians,
Whose armor was as black as night,
His greatsword ended the life of a feared barbarian leader
Yet you did not falter at his gaze,
For you knew that even a wicked Champion can fall

You, O Gedor, praised the name of Hayah,
As you stuck a Champion with a simple stone,
Helance arose with bladed hands seeking your life,
You ended his folly with righteous fire

The forces of Risan charged at you,
The gods of Sarton faced Hayah from the heavens,
From their courses they aided the Sarton magi,
As you faced the wicked horde alone

With the might given to you
From birth by Hayah,
You, O Gedor, released burning light,
Against the hordes of Risan,
As they raged towards Pharas,
Wicked magi of Sarton release darkness
From their hateful fingers

O Hayah, you blessed the light from Gedor
The light that purged the dark tendrils,
The light that render their magic undone,
Cleansing the air of the wicked magi,
Their evil way ended with shouts of oblivion,

Your light, O Gedor, burned brightly,
Destroying the hordes of Risan,
Hundreds fell at your left hand,
Thousands at your right hand

The wicked Champion charges,
With a wicked battle cry,
He leapt with all his might,
Like a demon of darkness,

Risan sought your very life,
To claim glory at your death,
Yet you knew this would fail,
For Gedor did indeed laugh,
The light blessed by Hayah,
Was your sword released,
You sent against Risan
Like lightning from heaven,

Risan was struck quickly,
The wicked Champion fell,
Cast to the earth,
His armor ruined to oblivion,
A Champion became humbled
O Gedor, you returned to us,
Victorious against an horde,
Pleased that you faith,
Stood affirmed to all,

The field of battle became a ruin,
Covered in ashes of destruction,
Those who lived wore shame,
Disgrace became their garments

A wicked Champion was mocked,
Scorn became his companion,
Nobles of Sarton wore solemn,
Yet laughed in secret at Risan,
O how you fell mightily,
O wicked Champion of Sarton!

Bless the Name of Hayah!
He blesses His people!
He blesses those who trust Him!
He makes His faithful strong!
He makes His chosen mighty!
Praise His Holy Name!"

Summary

The Song of Gedor puts into a song the amazing victory that Pharas elder Gedor won as one man with logic-defying faith, who stood up on behalf of his God and his people against an aggressive force led by one of the Champions of Sarton, General Risan. The Song of Gedor is sung by both massive chorus bands or talented singers throughout the land to inspire their audience, and serve as a warning to the enemies of Pharas as well.

Historical Basis

The Song of Gedor is rooted in the events of the Battle of Sarton’s Gate, where the clash took place. The charred landscape serves as a constant reminder that the battle took place. The testimony of the survivors among Risan’s soldiers, and the Sarton Magi serve as witnessess to this event.
