The Shadow Brigade

The roots of the shadow brigade date back a long time before even the Western Union was founded, back then they were nothing more than a small secret organisation operated by Francis Dane a lord of mediocre political influence in the west, he was part of a small short lived kingdom, its name already long lost in History. But despite the fall of the kingdom the Dane family persevered. They continue to exist through every major shift in power steadily rising up in the nobel ranks, every disaster seems to favor the Dane´s, and why? Precicely because of the brigade, bribing a court offical here removing a political advesery there and sometimes even covertly taking out important targets on the open battlefield.
But when the Western Union was founded it put a political powerhouse on the map far larger than anything the brigade had dealt with so far, the whole west was now united, focused by the threat in the east the The Baharuth Empire. With the creation of the Union a new Inquisition was introduced and the brigade found itself loosing out in more and more areas simply because of the sheere manpower the Inquisition of the western union brought with it. So Duglas van Dane the current lord at the time approached the Arch Lector of the union Inquisition with a proposal. Insted of trying to killing each others agents and root out spies why not form an entirely new Organization for the betterment of the union.
The exact details of the creation are classified, even most of the current higher ups are not privy to that information, but the newly created union of the mists quickly squashed most of the other minor spy operations goning on in the western union. An official branch of the Inquisition was created tasked with day to day investigation of politicians, criminals and traitors, well known to the world for its ruthless eficciency. But even to this day very few know of what lurks within the shadows of the Inquisition.

The Union of the Mist

The premiere mission of the union of the mist is to keep any one individual from gaining too much power and keeping the council of the western union in check.
The union of the mists is comprised of several intelligence teams stationed in every major city always keeping up with the newest information oftentimes they also own/lead the predominant merchant guilds of their area. Once the news is attained by the Headquarters it is analyzed and categorized. If the news is determined to be relevant, a task force speciallized to the mission at hand is created and deployed. Through their close connection to the inquisition they have access to government resources, from weapons to airships everything is at their disposal.
One might think that such immense influence and power focused in one organization, is destined to fail and attract power hungry individuals. But even though as a whole the organisation is imennsly influential and powerful. Its is structured in a way that the power is as fractured as possible. Furthermore senior agents get promotet to mistwatchers, tasked to oversee the union itself and keep it from destroying itself.
