Curing Kiln
People are always surprised to learn that there are over 500 curing kilns operating within the Catacombs, and each is processing hundreds of bones in a single firing.
The oven in which a bone is Cured into a Relic is known as a curing kiln. Like other kilns, it is capable of maintaining both high heat and pressure. Unlike the usual artsian kiln, the insulating bricks that make up the kiln's vital interior are made from bone ash. (This ash is sourced from the bones of animals slaughtered for food.)
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The mineral composition of the bricks is critical for the proper processing of a person's bone into a relic. This is why only bone ash bricks are reliable for the construction of a curing kiln.
Flammable gas is burned within the chamber. This gas allows for a more precise control over the internal conditions of the kiln, including temperature and pressure.
The bone-ash bricks are the most critical component of the kiln. While the precise reason for this is unknown -- as there is much that is unknown about what actually happens inside of the sealed kiln -- it is assumed that the bone is necessary to conducting whatever energies transfer a spirit and its component bone into an entirely new object.
