History of the Free Realms in Years of the Divine King (YDK)

The Free Realms are a relatively new concept. By the reckoning of the Imperial Dwarves, what is now the Free Realms made up most of what they considered their "Shieldlands" that stood as a bulwark between the Empire and the wilder lands of the Steppes, the Eye of Geteema and the Badlands. The dissolution of the Grand Conqueror's Empire led to realms across the world asserting their independence from the God-Emperor of the dwarves. In addition to the Lakelands, the Free Realms are principally human and generally adhere to the teachings of the Church of the Divine King as a society.   The new calendar was established in the elven year 6648 during the Age of Blood and Fire with the first Holy Synod of High Farrells of the Church being convened in Windenby in Old Icatia. It is now the standard calendar for the realms of Abenton, Aldoon, Aramon, Eos, Greyvale, Hart's Cross, Holy Icatia, Mercadia, Orliac, and Westervale.

    Court of High Farrells established.
    Religious event

In the city of Windenby in Old Icatia, the first grand synod of the High Farrells of the Church of the Divine King came together to settle matters of common theology, liturgy and time keeping. The first grand council of the Church takes a rigorous approach to codifying the central tenets of their faith.
Almost immediately, the Church is adopted as the official religion of Aramon, Icatia and Orliac. It spreads not long afterwards to the city-states of Mercadia, the kingdoms of Abenton and Eos, and the Confederation of Aldoon.

The high elven queen Riga the Magnificent calls down Yhera's Tears from the heavens. The city is the ancient capital of the newly-joined gnomish peoples and the Dwarven God-Emperor had his imperial seat moved there centuries ago. The impact annihilates the city, kills the God-Emperor and raises Riga the Magnificent into sainthood. Yhera's Tears bring with them an oily substance called the Grey Waste, and what results is the wholesale destruction of the gnomish people and culture, their lands despoiled seemingly forever.

The demographics and balance of power will shift considerably in the coming years, and the Tannith Vale Affair is well-remembered in the halls and salons of the Church-going human nobility.

Located in the capital city of the half-elven Kingdom of Othune, Ellarüne Lyria, the abbey was subject to a midnight attack that collapsed the entirety of the grand building into a massive sinkhole. Investigations prove that the attack was perpetrated by the secretive Order of the Ebon Hand in order to conduct the creation of a vile bridge from below. They were seemingly unsuccessful, and it is further revealed that they were investigating the cursed city of Ellarüne Duré as well.

The King of Eos appoints the twin daughters of Baroness Lovisa Daradona each to a vacant Baronial Seat in the province of Tannith Vale. The larger holding of Tanberg goes to the fierce sister, Radha; and the lesser holding of Norwen goes to the gentle sister, Tania. In addition, the wood elven Countess and the foreign Baroness agree to enter into an alliance of their houses: the Baroness' infant daughter will be betrothed to the toddler son of the Countess, all with the tacit approval of the King. While the move is subject to great approval locally, the various Church-going noblemen in the kingdom are much less enthused.

When called out by the King's younger brother, Prince Elias Woodhand of Istvan's Reach, the nobles stand and leave silently in protest.
