History

Long ago, in ages past. Back when the world we have come to call Arelia was but a young thing. This is before the first dragons and giants have ever gone to war with one another. Before the rise and fall of their empires. The goddesses Arelia and Ameriel had just finished the creation of the world and all life within. The races were so young back then that aside from settlements, there was no true governing body for any of them. One beautiful and dark night, the goddess Nyxa, the goddess of night, was visited by her beloved husband, Oni, the god of the Hunt. He had just come from watching many of his loyal worshipers fail in their hunts as the night was dark and the beasts, unforgiving. Nyxa saw the trouble in her beloved's eyes and ask what bothered him so. Oni explained his sadness over losing several devoted followers to beasts of the night as they were unable to see and soon the hunter, became the hunted. Now the night is Nyxa's realm, and as such, all within it was within her domain. She heard the pleas for aid by many hunters and was too, saddened by this. It was at this moment, and idea came to mind. She comforted her beloved Oni and promised she would find a solution for him. She requested the hope of the hunters of the night from him, which he had given freely to her. Upon receiving this she gave Oni a comforting kiss and left to speak with the other gods. You see, Nyxa was also the goddess of crafts. As such, ideas and inventions came naturally to her. She gathered the other gods and goddesses and spoke to them in a conference. Her idea was to have light, a small amount at least, during the night, for the hunters of the night who needed it. Her plan was to place it in the sky that all within the dark may have it when they need it. After careful consideration the goddesses Arelia and Ameriel agreed to have this in their world should their mother and father permit it. Ever the loving parents they were, Naki and Yosren agreed to this.       From Yosren, an orb of light that would forever balance the sightless night with the bright day. From Naki, she gave this orb life and have it become another source of life on the world. From Arelia, she gave the orb reflection in all waters so that it's light may be amplified. From Ameriel, she gave a small gift of death to those who would use this well and thus may be able to hold death at bay. From Zendai, a song to be sung by his favored beasts of the night to this light in the night sky. From Varen, a place in the night sky for this orb of light. From Sethris, a gift of constant and predictable change as a sign to mortals of when the longest nights and shortest nights are to come. From Welfel, hidden knowledge within the orb and the illumination of the mind should it be studied. From Kiran, the gift of magic within the orb for those willing to learn from it.     Nyxa cried tears of joy, which fell into the orb, at the many gifts from her fellow gods and goddesses. It was then Yosren declared to her "These gifts are not yours Nyxa. Nor are they for your husband. I shall keep them until the time is right." At first Nyxa was confused and hurt by her father's words. It was her mother that brought clarity. "They are gifts for your child Nyxa. Your child is to join us in the heavens. As a mother, know that the greatest gift ever is the love of your child." Tears began to flow once again. To this Yosren spoke once more "This is also the greatest gift a father can truly have. The love of his children. It is this gift I wish for you and your husband. Go now, and tell your husband of this."   Following her father's words, she found Oni watching over his followers. His eyes seemed to smile at the sight of her. She told him of the great gifts from his fellow gods and was moved by the words of his father and mother. He spoke to Nyxa "Beloved, I will not conceive a child with you because we are told we must. I wish to do so only when we decide for ourselves the time is right." Nyxa lovingly replied "I feel the same beloved but tell me, do wish to have a child with me?" Oni's reply was a quick "Yes of course! I long for the day to hold our child in my arms! But what of father and mother? Would they be angered with us for bringing another god into this realm?" Nyxa's reply was a knowing smile followed by the words "Beloved, father and mother did not mandate us to have a child, they gave us their blessing should we choose to do so!" At this Oni was over joyed. Soon Nyxa was with child and upon her and Oni realizing this, they spoke to the gods assembled. Oni spoke proudly "Father, mother, my brothers and sisters! I bring news! My wife has brought forth a child into this world!" Nyxa came before the others with her beautiful daughter in her arms. The child was bathed in the applause of the other gods. Yosren stood up and the whole pantheon went silent as he approached Nyxa with her child. Nyxa Held her daughter up for her father to see her clearly. "What is her name?" asked Yosren. Oni and Nyxa both replied "Luna". At this Yosren nodded in approval. "A name worthy of a goddess. So be it! She shall taker her place among us as goddess of the moon, the light in the dark, the gift to hunters, sailors and those who have lost their way, the goddess of change eternal and the embodiment of the love of Nyxa and Oni!"
