Stock Wars

The Decades-long Conflict that Defined the Cantons of Milos

The Stock Wars was a decades-long conflict between the then-five cantons of the Milosian Peninsula. The wars centered around the raiding and centralizing of livestock, which gave the conflict its name and would do much to define the modern perceptions of these five cantons.   The Stock Wars are generally agreed to have been started by Yvruel, who began raiding horses from the other cantons, stealing all they could and slaughtering what they could not. This was presumably meant to give them a great military advantage over the other cantons (which it did), but also frequently resulted in the other cantons allying against them, however briefly. This would soon lead to Urudun trying a similar tactic with cattle, some of which they bred as mounts. Bastis, Ethel, and Revellia would try similar plans with dogs, sheep, and pigs, respectively, though these would ultimately have more economic impact than military.   The Stock Wars were officially ended by the Great Parley of 944 RA. After this, cantons would agree to 'lease out' females of their monopolized animal, and the occasional gelded male. This would also lead to specialized breeding, and the modern titles often applied to each canton: Yfri the Horselands, Bastis the Doglands, Urudun the Cowlands, Ethel the Sheeplands, and @canton the Piglands.
