Mornalian Coast

The Mornalian Coast was taken by Mornalith sometime after the collapse of the Mornal Empire. Though never great at sea, many of the middlingly powerful families sought to evade the harsh fate that the Masters of the World were facing from their former slaves, sailing east to the Bitter Isles (where they would find more liberated slaves waiting for them), north to the harsh islands of the Howling Sea, and west across the Ferrakhilian to the coasts of the Farther West, which they named the Mornalian Coast.   The port town of Mornalia was founded by these nobles and their most trusted servants, and would eventually be followed by three others: Dafold, Csograd, and Amakochin. It is believed that the Pukavi of the Atakloszan colonies may have assisted the Mornals with this work: if so, the former slaves would surely have charged a very steep price for their work.   The Coast would soon after be taken by other nations: Chonosh and Burreces.   The Mornalian Coast offers some adequate fishing, but its soil is stony and cold, and much of the four ports' goods come from across the Mornal Sea, where the remnants of Mornalith continue to cling to life. Trade across the small sea is vibrant, with the Mornalian Coast providing exotic rarities not found anywhere else in the world. These oddities come from the Garghisi, a small folk living on and directly west of the coast. Though remarkably peaceful, the Garghisi train sturdy and evil-looking mounts called Bandurs: shaggy-haired and sharp of tooth, these wolf-like animals are remarkably easy to ride and, though unquestionably carnivorous, have never been known to turn on their riders.   Most valuable of all, however, is the pale blue root that the Mornals call snow ginger (the Garghisi call it zhelany). This extraordinary spice remains a desperately sought-after delicacy among the great houses of Mornalith, and it is said the judicious application of it to the powerful families of neighboring nations has kept them from finally wiping out Mornalith altogether.
