Lothar Beth

Lothar Beth

Fifth son and seventh child of Fiion Beth, his third child with Maargo Odon.   It is widely believed that Lothar Beth was named for Lothar Lawgiver, a Deinain god. A peculiarity, as the Beths have been regarded as devout Host Keepers for centuries. Many might conclude, then, that the Hosts would punish them most ironically for this blasphemy, as Lothar would grow into a wild boy and later an untamed man, oft called Lothar the Lawless. Yet for all his passions and thoughtless words, he was striking and charming, and he invariably managed to talk or fight himself out of every snarl. Most notable among these was when Lothar seduced Miriana Han'dylth, who had been betrothed to his elder half-brother Danraigh, heir to the chiefdom. The two were soon married, and Miriana made it clear she greatly preferred Lothar's company to Danraigh's. The Han'dylths were cousins to the royal line, and thus there was little to be said against them. Ultimately, Lothar was favored above Danraigh, and the matter settled. Such would prove a model for all of Lothar's misdeeds, including the many bastards he was said to have fathered about the streets of Revelback.   Lothar spent much of his life under the peaceful early reign of Gwydion the Great, and would often lament aloud that no grand war had appeared in which he might prove his valor. He gladly joined the Great Southern Rebellion, despite that most of Clan Beth opposed it, and joined Geralt the Black Dog far north in the Pass of Peril. He was fifty at the time, and though still hale and hearty, some whispered he was abandoning his responsibilities to his Clan. His own firstborn son Rhenthar would fight against the Rebellion, though thankfully their paths never crossed.   Lothar died in the Third Battle of the Pass, fighting alongside Prince Geralt.   With Miriana Han'dylth, Lothar sired Rhenthar, who died in the Great Southern Rebellion, as well as his second son Walter. They also bore three daughters: Faira, Glera, and Sakria, who all became hostesses.
