Citizen of Zoroth

Originated as a means of keeping Mornal blood out of the political process in the ostensibly inclusive Zorothi nation, only Zorothi citizens are allowed to vote and own property. Non-citizens who live in Viis Zoroth are still (usually) called Zorothi, but citizenship is a special title that must be inherited or earned.   Citizenship can be heritable, but only in a one-for-one rate. That is, any parent may bestow citizenship upon one of their children. Typically, a mother will grant citizenship to her first daughter, with the husband granting citizenship to the second daughter (or first son if there is no second daughter). Any further children must earn their citizenship.   Earning citizenship is fairly simple: attaining sponsorship from three citizens and passing a counsel-interview with twelve citizens of sufficient stature ("sufficient stature" is defined by the approval of the twelve people in question). Naturally, gaining sponsorship is easier for some than others, and passing interviews triply so. Unsurprisingly, these interviews are far easier for the children of citizens, who grew up in the culture necessary to understand what interviewers want.   Citizenship can be revoked for some crimes (most notably thievery, depending on severity). When this happens to a parent, the child who received citizenship from said parent loses their citizenry. This has given rise to many children opting to earn their own citizenship, taking advantage of the connections and internal understanding their birth has granted them.
