Scope
The motivation behind building Arceiron
I'm working on a grand living world to host my Dungeons & Dragons campaigns in.
The goal of the project
It is meant to host a plethora of different campaigns with different settings and themes, while still feeling like one big world, where decisions matter and that evolves as the time passes.
Arceiron's Unique Selling point
It's a fully homebrew world, that can adjust and evolve as the campaigns in it happen. It is not constrained by any official D&D lore or setting.
Theme
Genre
Arceiron is a high fantasy medieval world, built to support sandbox but also epic level campaigns. It is mostly centered around western european medieval fantasy, but also containing parts of eastern, greek and african mythology, depending on the location within the world.
Reader Experience
Arceiron is designed to evoke wanderlust and the feeling to explore its many regions, nations and cultures, which are often marred through diplomatic and political events and relations.
Overall it should feel epic and fantastical. There are certain elements that can contain horror and serious topics, but for the most part this isn't a major focus.
Reader Tone
The world is more dark, marred with political conflicts, prejudices and the influence of demons, and dark gods. It might carry similar tones to e.g. the Witcher, Game of Thrones or Warhammer Fantasy, but usually not going as dark as Dark Souls or Diablo.
Recurring Themes
- Dangerous travels & wildlife in a seemingly civilized world.
- Political intrigue and deceptions.
- Mysterious ruins, filled with dark and ancient powers.
- Characters of a certain race or stand subverting expectations.
- The influence of the gods and other powerful entities on the mortal world.
Character Agency
Characters are meant to be able to have a hero's journey and reach epic heights in the end, where their actions and decisions can have a major influence on the world as a whole.
The influence and changes brought by characters might have long lasting implications and change parts of the world as a whole. These changes will affect the lore and events within a certain campaign, and its possible follow up campaigns.
In addition to this, every campaign might even have the potentual to influence the worlds canon lore, as a whole, but it does not have to. In the end, depending on the campaign, I will decide what does and does no end up as official lore within the world.
