Salted earth

History

Ever since religion and monsters first collided, the holy has seen itself as destroyers of the dark, while creatures seen as evil in natural response aim themselves at haunting and preying on churches. Some in retaliation, some because they quite frankly deserve to be brought low by a blade of light. The tradition of salting the earth started around holy monasteries and buildings in the outskirts of cities, found in the violence of the dark woods. The salts themselves being of a special blessed variant known to have an almost allergy inducing effect on chaos.

Execution

This rite is generally made by drawing a circle of the salts around an area one wishes sanctified. They then set the salts ablaze, creating a protecting glowing ring around the area, which they spread the rest of the salts over. This induces pain into most dark creatures which try to invade, to the point it could even be lethal of stey step unto the salts, as they risk sparking a flame and catching the creature ablaze.   It's also possible to use holy water, sprinkled on the salts to make this effect about thrice as devestating, while melting into the skin of an intruder. Causing them to burn in holy flames from the inside out. Alternatively, if one does not want to burn dark creatures on their lawn, incense instead works like a mosquito repellant to them. The smell being said to feel painfull for them to breathe in, though at the still time have a drugging effect which calms them down.

Observance

These rites are generally observed to mostly take place during autumn and winters, starting when the sun falls. The reason for this time in peculiar to be perfect for salting the earth, is that creatures of chaos generally become boldest in the cold and dark.
