Kingdom of Norvik

Structure

The kingdom is made up from several family based clans. These clans are lead by chieftans and warlords, known as earls, that have sworn allegiance to a single king. This king is often also called a jarl.

Culture

When people speak of Norvik, they often use the wrong terms of frozen wasteland or a massive battle royale between all the different clans and families involved. They're only right when it comes to the dragon infested mountains though.   Norvik is in fact a very religious kingdom, that stay firm to their pagan rites and beliefs to worship the heroes of old. They see their faith as older and wiser than many others, and even though they do not deny other cultures their gods, it's not all too uncommon for people in lands they conquer to convert.   This pagantry is also made clear from all the temples, totems and symboles that they raise for their different gods.

Public Agenda

It's hard to miss a raid from Norvik. How the longships storm the shores with hardened warriors swarming in to steal and plunder anything they can find. Or sometimes outright conquer and lay claim to lands if they are defendable and with good farmsoil.   This raiding doesn't often come in simple bloodsport though, but as a response to war and a way to access richer grains to feed their people. With a lack of good soil and the constant imminent threats from beastlike hordes, their colonies become critical to feed a warmachine of conquerors, just like their raiding becomes important to train warriors of men and women, even from younger ages.

History

Way back in time, Norvik used to be a very split country with different neighbouring clans that waged war on one another. This bloodshed caused by stuggle for farmlands and impressing the gods caused many clans to be wiped out completely, and forced some smaller groups to meld together so that they had a chanse to fight back.   A couple hundered years into the age of clan wars, the Bjornfing managed to stay strong thanks to high numbers and strategic possitions of their walled city.   Underneath Gunvald Ragnvaldson the Bjornfing managed to unite half of Norviks clans underneath his Jarldom. Through clever speech, the marriage of his two daughters and some ruthless fighting, Gunvald secured his kingdom and a name in the lore.   Opposition rose however, when the Goat Clan, known to have long been the most powerful clan in all of Norvik formed alliances with the remaining independant clans. Together they formed the Kingdom of Askvik. It's reign didn't hold for long though, as the Bjornfing managed to beat them with clever tactics and powerful champions.   Most clans of Askvik gave up and joined the Kingdom of Norvik in the face of certain defeat, yet two of the most powerful clans remained grudgeful and declined an oath of fealthy to Norvik.   The Askmunding retreated to isolation within their deep forests of Ostr-Myrkvird, remaining hostile to any intruders.   The Myrkling still wage their war, from the isles of Myrkheyla, where they've sworn strange alliances with goblins, ogroids, dragons and a group of Hel-alfr.
