Gothangela

Geography

The region of Gothangela is a hardly traversed square shaped land, covered in looming mountains and dark hills that paint most of it's colours in gray. Within though, plenty of small valleys and little plots exist, where forests grow thick and old, having been avoided by the touch of larger civilizations due to the many small and windling paths, through mountains and cursed vale's one needs to cross in order to reach them.   Though it's proved impossible to establish any proper routes for trades, without spending billions on machinery to drill tunnels, Gothangela is still ripe with natural resources. Fresh water exists in an abundance from the many frozen mountaintops pouring it's fresh springs into small lakes, clean enough to drink directly from. Hence, though cursed it's lands are still something almost every major faction in Diestria seek to tame.

Ecosystem

As a coastal region, with a lot of mountains, Gothangela is often dark and misty with clouds wrapping around it's snowy peaks almost like an intricate webbing, while fog easily gathers around it's hills and woods. Stealth is hence something that most creatures have come to adapt, accompanied with good mobility to traverse through the nooks, crannies and steep mountain paths. It also tends to rain a lot, like two or three days a week within the Region, which helps certain crops and shrooms to easily grow.

Ecosystem Cycles

Gothangela is said to be cursed with a constant autumn. It's solitary confinements do better keeping the warmth out of the region than it does the cold. So while it's summers are warm, especially by the coastline, the higher altitude spots never really see the warmth of summer, being only far brighter during those and the spring months. During winters, it also tends to get so cold and snowy that most animals hybernate, while people who live on the furthest reaches of the altitude have had to find better protected areas to move too.

Localized Phenomena

The region is placed that they sometimes see a so called bloodmoon. It's not known exactly why Gothangela see bloodmoons far more often than the rest of Diestrian regions, though during this phenomen magical usage tends to somehow become more efficent, though predatory animals also become more hungry and on the rare occation even develops a pallet for human flesh. The red is still a beautiful sight over the mountains though.

Fauna & Flora

Most of the flora in Gothangela seems twisted, though not vampiricaly cursed. Rather the trees are all slightly bent more than usual, with dark scarlet leaves covering the cannopies of the soil hiding within the surrounding mountains. Due to the amount of rain, there is also always a lot of shrooms to be found around the region. Shrooms both ordinary and creatures, like the many wolves, bears, deers and small critters that reside within the area.

Natural Resources

Gothangela is abundant in natural resources, which is why so many factions within Diestria currently seeks claim over it. The mountains are ripe with ores, minerals and fresh water. The woods still rich, with many mapple and rubber trees growing within, among it's cornucopia of edible herbs, mushrooms and wild game.

History

Though isolated, Gothangela is far from uninhabited, or without native cultures that call the region their home. The name itself came from two larger tribes that resided within. The Gothian, being the people residing within the mountains and the Angelicans, being the people of the woodlands and hills. They used to once live in peace with one another, as worshipers of wild gods said to bring bountiful harvests and good omens.   It all changed on the day, when one of their gods reached out back to the Angelican Braidweaver tribe. At first it seemed innocent enough, as in return for occult healing arts, the god demanded an offering of skin and bones from hunted animals. Years went by though, as the power they held over wounds and disease slowly waned away. The dark god they served now demanded more, a sacrifice of flesh and blood from beasts. Slowly, this would continue to worsen untill nothing but human sacrifice could quench their hunger.   The Gothians watched on as the madness grew. Disgusted with what they'd seen, they cast aside old traditions to prepare for the inevidible war with the Angelican tribes. Which soon came to rage all over the region, as the kingdom of Angelica was formed. It wasn't enough though, the tribes couldn't just sacrifice themselves forever and eventually they braved the mountains to conquer the Gothian tribes as their slaves.   Even with the dark blessings of their god though, the mountain people proved harder to crack than they thought. Though lesser in numbers and far from as united, they had both the resources and terrain on their side.   By utilizing alchemy, artiface and their environment, the Gothian forces fought back by burning mountain passages, staging avalanches to bury them in the snow and even utilized animals such as falcons and goats to knock their larger soldiers down from the edges. At first it seemed like they were winning the war, as at the time there was no way for the Angelicans to climb the mountains without being devestated by their forces. Yet, for each kill they gained, their assailants had another sacrifice strengthen the gifts of their dark god.   For each Angelican that died, three more would be born stronger, faster and more zealous than the one before. Their powers to control nature had them conjure vines and creatures of bone and bark, allowing them to traverse the mountains in ways they prior couldn't. Likewise, it proved too hard a task for mere falcons and goats to knock the trees away from the paths, hence the tribal kingdom slowly started to gain approach on their enemies, enslaving several of their tribes underneath a their rule.   The Gothians wouldn't give up though. Within their desperate hour of need, they started to look for new weapons to cull their foes with. One invention being the crossbow, which they'd load with alchemical vials to burn the treekin with. They also spread quicksilver in several of the waterstreams that lead down to the Angelican villages, wiping a few of their tribes out completely. Though the devestation was so great, the war soon halted into a small guerrila conflict that went on for hundreds of years, between the two factions.   The war didn't end untill knights of Peregon reached the cursed lands, on a quest to banish the dark gods they allied with the Gothian. With the knowledge of both falconry and crossbows, a new breed of soldier fighting heresy with silver and holy sacrament, though striking from the shadows - were formed. The Witch Hunters became the elite assassins that brought the Angelicans to heel. Destroying their foul shrines while erecting churches, cathedrals and temples in their stead. The populace both Angelican and Gothian now had to follow Peregonian faith in High Heaven, while followers of the Thornbride were sentenced to execution.   Eventually, most of the region's influence fell into Gothian rule, as Peregon had no use for Gothangela. Though, in recent times the Angelicans have slowly made their return throught Diestria, with the Braidweaver tribe once more wying for claim over their ancient homeland.
