Purpose

Thamaturges have a near universal role of providing support through healing aches and wounds during or after combat or providing buffs to their allies. They also have the capacity to deal damage by sapping the life energy of targets to themselves or to their allies.

History

It is a tradition of the feudal areas of the Ecumene region that the youngest princess of a royal family to become a curate. It is believed that this practice was started by the influential Burgess royal family.

Operations

Tools

Thamaturges are primarily proficient in the use of a Scepter which enhances the effects of their supportive magic. Curates can also been seen using spellbooks which line rituals for communicating with the departed.   Some thamaturges may also or instead carry more tools for self defense, most commonly blunt weapons such as staves.

Provided Services

Thamaturge are generally tasked with providing help to others mainly through healing or improving the condition of others. For civilians, this often means providing medical aid, in combat places this usually means providing magical first aid. As part of an adventuring party, a curate's main role is to provide healing, buffs, or protection to their allies through magic. Curates can also weaken foes with their magic or use offensive oriented magic, particularly to undead and demonic creatures.

Dangers & Hazards

The training undertaken by curates generally doesn't prepare their bodies for much physical exertion. This may translate to the battlefield as having less strength and defensive capabilities. As such, curates have traditionally been the first target of enemies to take down an entire team. Their defensive weaknesses and their primarily non-offensive nature make keeping them hidden away from enemies behind fighting units a necessity to use them.
