Sidon

Sidon is a small but bustling port on the Eastern coast of the Great Sea.   Expanding from its humble beginings as a fishing village, it has become a port and terminus on the caravan routes coming out of the east.  Ships sail up and down the coast from here.  Mainly shipping grain out and other items coming back in.  Recently there is a developing smelting operation set up east of town that turns copper and tin ores into ingots for shipment out to other cities.     The Coastal Plain provides excellent land to grow grains on, there are also sufficient olive trees and grapes grown to satisfy local needs.     The town is largely peaceful, but does have a small militia for defense.  It is ruled by a King, currently Baraca Kron, who is traditionally chosen from the heads of the leading families.

Government

Council headed by King selected from the leading families (Kron Family, Xenu Family, Dahl Family, Salaman Family).  The understanding is that the crown will pass to the eldest of the heads of household upon the death of the previous King.  The council has no set membership beyond the four.  They can choose to include others and consult with others.  Currently Eloi the eldest priest in town is on the council and serves as the tie breaking odd man.     At least one of the council members will be at the market each day to serve as judge for any disputes that may arise.

The city can call on a militia of 220 men.

Industry & Trade

Fishing is the predominant industry.  There is also a healthy grain surplus.  These have lead to a trade in salted fish and grain.  This lead to the potters coming in great numbers to provide the jars needed for trade.  The fish require salt so this is a need of the city currently provided by the Kron Family.  A budding industry is the smelting of copper and tin ore from the mountains that is beginning to flow into Sidon.  This is lead by the Yiro Family recently arrived with a caravan of this and the knowledge of how to work this metal.

Infrastructure

The town has a well in the marketplace and most buildings have cisterns.  It has also built two docks.

Guilds and Factions

The Fishermen of Sidon are roughly organized, and have their own council that acts as a sub-government in Fisher's Town
The Potters of Sidon are a loose craft guild that tries to protect their market.  
The Yiro Family has recently arrived and begun a smelting work for both copper and tin.
Risi Zor Another recent arrival is trying to establish himself in shipping and in the area of the docks.
Clivsy Fraso Is the head of the local militia and the most experienced officer in Sidon.  This is not an active group at this time, but he does have some voice because of his position.

History

Sidon began many years ago as a few families of fishermen set up a fishing village.  Eventually farmers and tradesmen followed.  This would then attract traders as the harbor could support ships.  The newer activities have been drawn to the north.  Caravans began coming in 844 AR.
