Personal history
Mot is one of the sons of Elun. He along with his brother Yamm oppose Baal and the other gods. He rules over Mawt his underworld realm of death and decay from his pit throne in his fortress city of Hemry.
He is also locked in ongoing battle with Baal. Baal brings the rains that are needed in the Levant as no river flooding takes place to sustain life as in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Men must honor and support Baal without angering Mot. For while Baal gives them sustenance in life, Mot will be their caregiver in death.
In the most poignant part of the Baal cycle he devours Baal. He is then attacked by Anat and Shapash. The two goddesses of Moon and Sun defeat him. They split him open with their blades, then grind him down and winnow him through a seive before burning him in a fire. He recovers and seeks his revenge in the ensuing fight with Shapash she informs him the his Father Elun is ready to turn against him unless he relents in this war. So the stalemate continues with Baal sending rain and Mot sending drought.
